Jesus asked, "Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold, My hands and My feet,, that it is I Myself handle Me, and see, for a Spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see Me have." And when He had thus spoken, He shewed them [His] hands and [His] feet. And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, He said unto them, "Have ye here any meat?" And they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish, and a honeycomb, and He took [it] and did eat before them.
And He said unto them, "These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning Me. Then opened He their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures. (Luke 24:36-45)
Jesus opened their understanding that they might understand the scriptures. Why? So that the law which was written in Moses and in the prophets, and in the psalms concerning Jesus would be fulfilled. Indeed, the scripture use the word must -- as in "must" be fulfilled. Here was the not yet ascended Jesus revealing to His disciples the revelation -- over a piece of broiled fish and honeycomb.
And then He gave them instruction -- that is, "Thus, it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day." Remember, these are the same words Jesus spoke unto them while He was yet with them, and when it came to pass, it was in order that all prophecies and what was written in the law of Moses, and in the psalms would be fulfilled.
From Psalms 118:22-24: "The stone [which] the builders refused is become the Head [stone] of the corner. This is the Lord's doing; it is marvellous in our eyes. This is the day [which] the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."
And from Psalm 72:1-8 "Give the king thy judgments, O God, and Thy righteousness unto the King's son. He shall judge Thy people with righteousness, and Thy poor with judgment. The mountains shall bring peace, so the people, and the little hills -- by righteousness. He shall judge the poor of the people, He shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor. They shall fear Thee as long as the sun and moo endure; throughout all generations. He shall come down like the rain upon the mown grass; as showers that water in the earth. In His days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endures. He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth."
During this time, when the Lord our God became as a mighty man, He ushered in the New Testament. He fulfilled what He said would be done -- that the Lord would do a "new thing" when the "dayspring from on high would visit His people. This is the redemption plan that the world cannot shut down. This is the salvation that God personally delivered to His people when He took on the form of man. (I Timothy 3:16; Acts 20:28; Isaiah 9:6; Revelation 1:8)
And even though He was in the world and the world made by Him, He would know Him not. (John 1:10) The Word dwelling among us so that we would behold His glory, and yet, we deny that Jesus is who He said He was. Thus, the need for Him to open the disciples' understanding, that they too might understand the scriptures.
So again, what does the not yet ascended Jesus say to His disciples?
"Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer; and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins be preached in His Name beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you, but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued from on high." (Luke 24:45-49)
And as they went their way toward Jerusalem, Jesus led them out as far as Bethany, and lifted up His hands and blessed them. And it came to pass, while He blessed them, He was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. And they worshipped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy; and were continuing in the temple, praising and blessing God.
As we now know, we understand that the Name given by the angel of the Lord, who came proclaiming peace and goodwill to all -- was the Name of JESUS. How do we know? Because it is the Name of JESUS that causes offence-- wherein the apostles filled with the Holy Ghost were ordered not to preach.
Nevertheless, like the disciples at this point, we too are instructed to preach repentance and remission of sins in His Name among all nations. (Luke 24:47)
And when the apostles received the power from on high, in the upper room, what did they do? They preached that this same Jesus whom ye have crucified is BOTH LORD AND CHRIST. (Acts 2:36)
This is the statement wherein the first 3,000 souls saved in the New Testament church were pricked in their hearts, and asked Peter standing with the eleven -- "What must we do?' What did Peter say? "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the Name of the Lord Jesus for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." (Acts 2:36)
Scripturally, this is the same message the apostles delivered throughout the book of Acts. This message resulted in the apostles being jailed, beaten, stoned, whipped, persecuted, and more, but the good news gospel message was always JESUS. And the apostles were the witnesses of these things.
So, when Jesus ascended, He through the Holy Ghost gave commandments unto the apostles whom He had chosen. The promise of My Father -- Jesus said -- the same Holy Ghost that overshadowed Mary so that she could bring forth a child. Therefore, don't let those who promote a triad god lead you astray from the cherished Word of God --who became flesh and dwelt among us so that we can have everlasting life in Him.
"Hear ye Him" said the voice, and that voice is still speaking today. Yes, "Hear ye Him!"
