From Whence Comes Your Hope? - Part 2314

The Lord is my Rock, and my Fortress, and my Deliverer, my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.” (Psalms 18:2)

“There is none holy as the Lord; for there is none beside Thee; neither is there any rock like our God.” (I Samuel 2:2)

“The Lord is my Rock, and my Fortress, and my Deliverer …” (II Samuel 22:2)

It is no wonder Jesus the Christ referred to Himself as The Rock that followed the Israelites through the Red Sea — because in Him, there is a grounding that cannot be shaken. Indeed, as the scripture saith, we who believe are un-moveable, unshakeable, because we know in whom we serve. We know that the Lord who is God is the Author and Finisher of our faith.

As David the psalmist points out, “For who is God save the Lord? or who is a Rock save our God?” (Psalms 18:31)

And because He lives, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. (Philippians 4:13) That we who believe can be known for singing His praises; for possessing a song in our heart, and willingly making a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation. It is for this reason that we exalt the God of our salvation in our comings and goings — because He is so very faithful to those whose hearts are perfect in Him.

But there are other reasons too — that are beyond the human reasonings and rationales of this world. That is, for in the time of trouble, He shall hide us in His pavilion; in the secret of His tabernacle, shall He hide us; He shall set us upon the Rock that never fails — and again, the Rock which is our Lord God and Saviour, Jesus the Christ. (Psalm 27:5)

“For Thou art my Rock and my Fortress; therefore, for Thy name’s sake, lead me and guide me.” (Psalms 31:3)

And although many of the psalms are interchangeable with Jesus’ journey on earth, we know that because of His redemption plan for His beloved chosen people, He has brought us out of a horrible pit of sin and transgressions, out of the miry clay, and set our feet upon that Rock which is Jesus. In all things, He establishes our comings and goings. (Psalms 89:26; Psalms 40:2)

But sadly, what is happening in the world today is that hearts are becoming overwhelmed for many do not know the Rock that is our salvation; our defence; that shields and protect us — so that our faith is not jolted by worldly endeavours.

Jesus shares a parable comparing those who build their house upon the rock with those who build on the sand. That when the rain descends, and the winds beat ups that house, the house on the same falls — for it was not founded upon a rock. (Matthew 7:24-25) As we know, the same principles apply to our spiritual journey. If we are not attached to The Rock who willingly redeemed us with His precious holy blood on a cross, our houses will fall as well.

Thus, it is in this context that we who believe have hope in the God of our salvation and glory; the Rock; our Redeemer, our strength and refuge — in God our Saviour Jesus the Christ. If you do not know Him this day, I encourage you to take hold of His truths, knowing that He will never leave you nor forsake you. Ask Him to become the strong habitation in your heart, whereunto you and I can resort, knowing that there is only One Rock and Fortress. And knowing too that in the good times and bad, He will feed us with the finest of wheat, and with the honey out of the Rock shall we be satisfied. (Psalms 81:16)

Yes, His Name is JESUS, for He shall save His people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21-23)
