By Him Were All Things Created - Part 733

"In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." (II Corinthians 4:4) But the scriptures have made it clear that we do not have to be blinded by the god of this world. Indeed, Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life." (John 14:6) Therefore, search the scriptures and discover that His Word -- "they are they which testify of Me." (John 5:39)

Hebrews chapter eight teaches that we live under a new covenant of grace -- a more excellent ministry -- because "He is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. For if that first covenant -- [the old covenant] had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second." The Lord said, "Behold, the days come when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not.

But because, saith the Lord. "This is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days. I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to Me a people. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more."

In fact, in that day, He said, "A new covenant, He hath made the first old. Now that which decays and wax old is ready to vanish away."

As we read further into Hebrews chapter nine, we begin to see the significance of the new covenant in terms of our salvation and forgiveness of sin. Beginning at the first verse:

"Verily, the first covenant [the old covenant] had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;

And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercy seat; of which we cannot now speak particularly. Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.
But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people."

But note the following scriptures. Herein, "the Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing: which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation."

"But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood He entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us."

"For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?"

Yes, it is for this cause He is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator lives -- whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood." (Hebrews 9:1-16)

Therefore, don't be blinded by the god of this world, for we are not of those who draw back in to perdition, but of them that believe unto the saving of the soul. (Hebrews 10:39)

Yes, the one and only -- our Lord God and Saviour. Jesus Christ -- the same yesterday and today and forever. Let him who hath ears to hear, hear. Stand in the offering plate.

The Word of the Lord Endures Forever - Part 732

We have so many reasons to rejoice and to be thankful. Certainly, we can rejoice that eternal life is a free gift, courtesy of the love and mercy of our Lord God and Saviour. We can rejoice that there is nothing that we can do to obtain the gift of salvation in and of ourselves, except believe on Jesus by faith. Similarly, we can rejoice that salvation is based solely upon the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ. In other words, when we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and willingly do His will, we shall be saved. (Acts 16:31)

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ is adamant on this point as he writes to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia -- the elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ.

Herein, he reiterates the good news gospel message of the Kingdom. That is, to rejoice that we were not redeemed with corruptible things but rather with the precious blood of Christ, as a lamb without blemish and without spot -- "who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world but was manifest in these last times for you [and I]-- who by Him do believe in God that raised Him up from the dead and gave Him glory -- that your faith and hope might be in God." (I Peter 1:18-21)

It is for this reason that we can rejoice in His abundant mercy that hath begotten us again unto a lively hope -- by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead -- to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled -- and that fades not away but instead is reserved in heaven for you and I -- who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (I Peter 1:3-4)

And it is for this same reason that we can rejoice even in the midst of manifold temptations, that the trial of our faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes -- might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ -- our Lord God and Saviour who loved us beyond measure.

Most of all, we can be thankful that we can rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory, receiving the end of our faith, even the salvation of our souls. Therefore, rejoice in this day -- this brand new day that the Lord hath made for our enjoyment. Stand in the offering plate.

Cast Thy Bread Upon the Waters and Thou Shalt Find It After Many Days - Part 731

"If righteousness come by the Law, then Christ is dead in vain." (Galatians 2:21) Many today believe that one is saved by good works, or by living a good life. Unfortunately, this is not what the scriptures state. Indeed, salvation is not achieved by works of righteousness which we have done -- but according to His mercy and grace. (Titus 3:5)

Therefore, believing in Jesus by faith -- believing in our Lord God and Saviour who loved us enough to shed His precious blood on a cross so that we might have salvation is the only way to inherit life everlasting. The book of Romans elaborates on this point. Specifically, Romans chapter ten states:

"Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the Law: for by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified. But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.

For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. For I through the Law am dead to the Law, that I might live unto God. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.

Therefore, do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the Law, then Christ is dead in vain." (Galatians 2:16-21)

"For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God ... for Christ is the end of the Law for righteousness to everyone that believes." (Romans 10:3-4)

Our only contribution then is to acknowledge our sin and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Romans 10:9-10)

Peter further elaborates on this point in Acts chapter ten. Therein, Peter preached that the Word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ -- (He is Lord of all) -- "that Word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him.

And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: Him God raised up the third day, and shewed Him openly; Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us, who did eat and drink with Him after he rose from the dead.

"And He commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is He which was ordained of God to be the judge of quick and dead. To Him give all the prophets witness, that through His name whosoever believes in Him shall receive remission of sins."

While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the Word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.

Then answered Peter, "Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?" And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord." (Acts 10:36-48)

Other scriptures confirm the same salvation message. In John chapter six, they said unto Jesus, "What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?" Jesus answered and said unto them, "This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent."

Peter, standing with the other apostles in Acts chapter two was asked the same question. "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" Then Peter said unto them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." (Acts 2:38)

Therefore, cast thy bread upon the waters today. Believe that the Lord God who created us in the beginning loved us enough to shed His precious blood on a cross for us. This is the work of God that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent. (John 6:29) Jesus -- our Lord God and Saviour. Stand in the offering plate.

My Soul Doth Magnify My Lord God and Saviour Jesus - Part 730

Have you ever considered "whom" we magnify when we "magnify His name with all our soul, our mind and our body?" Certainly, the scriptures are clear on this point. That is, we worship Jesus -- the only name under heaven whereby we can be saved. Indeed, Acts 4:12 states, "Neither is there salvation in any other -- for there is none other name under heaven given among men -- whereby we must be saved."

But traditional religion combined with the deceitful forces of this earth continues to change the original salvation message -- decided by God Himself before the foundation of the world was shaped. Indeed, in many cases, these institutions have chosen to downplay Jesus' words that state,: "I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes unto the Father but by Me." (John 14:6)

"To wit, God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing them, [but rather having] committed unto us the Word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us -- Christ's stead -- be ye reconciled to God. For He hath made Him to be sin for us, He who knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him." (II Corinthians 5:19-21)

In other words, God became flesh so that you and I could be reconciled to Him. God with us -- both God and man -- so that when we accept His grace and mercy, and choose to make Jesus the only Lord in our lives, we have everlasting life.

In fact, there was no other way to achieve salvation. For when we were the servants of sin, we were free from righteousness. But in those days, what fruit had we in those things whereof we are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. The Bible states that the wages of sin is death.

But the scriptures also state that "the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Therefore, when we accept Jesus into our lives -- His mercy and love -- His healing and spiritual renewal for our lives through the precious blood that He shed on the cross of Calvary, we are made free from sin -- so that we can become servants to  only God Almighty who loved us enough to become as one of us. Jesus -- God in the flesh -- loved us from the beginning. (John 1:1-18).

He that knew no sin took upon Himself sin so that you and I could enjoy HIs fruit unto holiness "and in the end everlasting life." (Romans -6:20-23) This is why we do everything that we do in the name of our Lord God and Saviour Jesus the Christ. Because "besides Me, there is no other." (Isaiah 43:11)

Therefore, "whatsoever you/we do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus." (Colossians 3:17) Let him that hath ears to hear, hear. And let your soul magnify our Lord God and Saviour Jesus. Stand in the offering plate.

Made in His Likeness, We Are Jesus' Jewels - Part 729

We are His jewels. "They shall be Mine," says the Lord of hosts, "On that day, I will make them My jewels. I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him." (Malachi 3:17) The scriptures encourage us to meditate upon these things, giving ourselves wholly to them; "that thy profiting may appear to all. Indeed, take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee." (Ephesians 4:15-16 / I Timothy 4:15)

The point about how much our Lord God and Saviour loves us is further elaborated on in Galatians chapter four. Herein, it describes the heir as a servant -- particularly when the heir/servant is seen as a child. This perception is made even when the child may in actuality be lord of all. That is, he/she is under tutors and governors until the time appointed by the father.

This same scenario can be likened to you and I. When we were children, we were in bondage under the elements of the world. But when the fulness of time was come, God sent forth His Son (made of a woman and made under the Law) to redeem those under the Law that we might also be received -- the adoption of sons.

Therefore, because we are now His sons, God sends forth the Spirit of His only begotten Son into our hearts, crying "Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant -- but a son -- and if a son -- then an heir of God through Christ." (Romans 8:15) In other words, when we accept Jesus into our hearts, we become sons and daughters of the most high King. There is no higher status than to become a friend and heir of the Most High.

So, howbeit then, when we knew not God, we did service unto them which by nature are no gods, and then now, after we have known God, or rather are known of God, turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? "Tell me, ye that desire to be under the Law, do you not hear the Law?" (Ephesians 4:21)

In essence, this is a question that we continually wrestle with in our earthly situations. However, as it is written, Abraham had two sons -- the one by a bondmaid and the other by a free woman. He who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh but he that was born of the free woman was by promise.

"Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answers to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children. But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.

But we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise. As then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.

Therein is our hope and peace -- that we who trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe are His jewels. Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free. (Galatians 5:1)  in the offering plate.

By What Name Have Ye Done This? - Part 728

And as the apostles spoke unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them, being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.

Still, many of them which heard the Word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand. And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes, and Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.

And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, "By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?"

Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, "Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel ... If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by Him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner."

Indeed, Peter said, "Neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, saying, "What shall we do to these men? For that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it."

However, these did not want the news of the miracle to spread any further among the people. Instead, these conspired, saying, "Let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name."

And thus, they called the apostles and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

But Peter and John together answered and said unto them, "Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard."

So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done. For the man who was healed was above forty years old. And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.

And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, "Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is ... who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?"

The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ. For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together -- for to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.

"And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, by stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus."

When they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the Word of God with boldness. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. (Acts 4:1-31)

As did the apostles, in both word and deed do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ -- including baptism -- because Jesus is the "only" name given among men and women under heaven whereby we can be saved. Stand in the offering plate.

My Son, Give Me Thine Heart - Part 727

"Come unto Me," Jesus said, "all ye that are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me -- for I am meek and lowly in heart -- and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)

In the midst of life's trials and tribulations, all we have to do is ask the Lord Jesus to hear our cry. To attend unto our prayer. Indeed, "from the end of the earth will I cry unto Thee, when my heart is overwhelmed. [Moreover] lead me to the Rock that is higher than I. For Thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. [As such] I will abide in Thy tabernacle forever. I will trust in the cover of Thy wings." (Psalm 61:2)

You see, the only safe place for any of us to be is in the arms of our Lord God and Saviour who loved us enough to shed His precious blood on the cross for us. All we have to do is seek Jesus with all our heart, our soul and our mind. In fact, believe upon His name -- Jesus -- and His righteousness, and as the scriptures state, "all these things will be added unto you." (Matthew 6:33)

What things, you ask? The peace of Jesus filling your very being. His joy welling up in your soul. His abundant love for His people that passes all human understanding. How can we know? Because "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance -- against such there is no law." (Galatians 5:22-23)

"For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knows that you have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added to you." Further, "fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." (Luke 12:31)

Choose Life in Jesus Christ - Part 726

As God's creation, we have not only been given authority over the earth but equally the power to make choices. Indeed, the Lord has set both life and death, blessing and cursing before us. Of course, in the end, our Lord God and Saviour desires that we choose life, in order that both we and our seed may have life everlasting. In fact, the scriptures state: "In the way of righteousness is life, and in the pathway thereof, there is no death." (Proverbs 12:28)

Moreover, the new covenant is all about the choice between life and death -- and the fact that "the last enemy that shall be destroyed is death." (I Corinthians 15:26) For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive -- but every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at His coming. Then cometh the end, when He shall have delivered up the kingdom of God, even the Father, when He shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign till He hath put all enemies under His feet. (I Corinthians 15:23-26)

But we, being justified by faith, have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ -- by whom we have access by faith, into this grace wherein we stand and rejoice, in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also; knowing that tribulation works patience, and patience, experience, and experience, hope and hope maketh not ashamed -- because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. (Romans 5:1-5)

"For when we were yet without strength in due time, Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die, yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him."

For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His only begotten Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life, and not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. But the good news is that "if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.

It is Jesus the Christ that makes our life precious. And equally, it is because of Jesus the Christ that we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. (Romans 8:37) Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. Jesus said, "He that believes in me -- though he were dead, yet shall he live." (John 11:25)

Ask Jesus into your life today. He who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness." (I Peter 2:24) Stand in the offering plate.

For I Have Appeared Unto Thee For This Purpose - Part 725

Saul, who after his conversion became Paul, would that everyone who heard, would receive the good news gospel message of reaching out to Jesus -- even his accusers. Indeed, throughout Paul's ministry, he continually emphasized the importance of salvation.

"For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant to all that I might gain the more. And to the Jews I became as a Jew that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law that I might gain them that are under the law. To them that are without law (being not without law to God but under the law to Christ) that I might gain them that are without the law. To the weak, that I might gain the weak, I am made all things to all men that I might by all means save some ... and this I do for the gospel's sake that I might be a partaker thereof with you." (I Corinthians 9:1-23)

Paul's desire to win souls for Jesus had become his sole life objective but it was not always this way. As we know from Paul's initial encounter with Jesus, his calling to the ministry differed somewhat from the other disciples. Still, his new life purpose was to become a fisher of men. And like other apostles, he looked upon ceremonial law and the old covenant as bondage that was made null and void when Jesus shed His precious blood on the cross. Our sins were paid for once and for all. Even so, the above scriptural passage shows that Paul was willing to submit to societal/legal constructs if in so doing, he would win people over to Christ.

Such is the situation in Acts chapters 24-26. Herein, orator Tertullus is informing the governor against Paul. Among his accusations, Tertullus states: "Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence. We accept it always and in all places most noble Felix with all thankfulness. Notwithstanding that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.

For we have found this man a pestilent fellow and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes: who also hath gone about to profane the temple whom we took and would have judged according to our law. But the chief captain Lysias came upon us and with great violence took him away out of our hands, commanding his accusers to come unto thee; by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things whereof we accuse him." (Acts 24:1-10)

Note that the Jews also assented to the accusations made by Tertullus, agreeing that all these things
that were stated were so. Note also that in responding both here and in later chapters, Paul never misses an opportunity to speak to those around him about Jesus -- his blessed Saviour.

In one scriptural reference, Paul says,  "But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets, and have hope toward God which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust. And herein do I exercise myself to have always a conscience void of offence toward God and toward man." (Acts 24:13-16)

Paul continues, relying on a combination of righteousness, temperance and the judgement that is yet to come as reasoning for the points he made.

Acts chapter 26 is another example. Agrippa permits Paul to speak -- allowing him to respond to the accusations made against him. Stretching forth his hand,  Paul states: "I think myself happy, King Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before these touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews: especially because I know thee to be expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews; wherefore, I beseech thee to hear me patiently.

My manner of life from my youth, which was at the first among mine own nation at Jerusalem, know all the Jews, which knew me from the beginning -- if they would testify -- that after the most straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee. And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers; unto which promise our twelve tribes, instantly serving God day and night, hope to come. For which hope's sake, King Agrippa, I am accused of the Jews -- unto which promise our twelve tribes instantly serving God day and night hope to come. For which hope's sake King Agrippa, I am accused of the Jews.

Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead? I verily thought with myself  I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth -- which thing I also did in Jerusalem, and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests, and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them. And I punished them oft in every synagogue and compelled them to blaspheme and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities. (Acts 26:1-13)

He then outlines the details of how his life had changed one day, as he ventured to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests. In fact, as we know from the scriptures, he was stopped in his tracks by the brightness of the sun shining around him -- and those who journeyed with him. And when they were all fallen to the earth, Paul heard a voice speaking, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, "Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou Me? It is hard for thee to kick against the pricks." (Acts 26:14)

When Paul asked, "Who art thou, Lord?" the Lord answered, saying, " I am Jesus whom thou persecutest."

Like Paul in his salvation journey, Jesus tells us similarly to stand upon our feet "for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose" -- to make us fishers of men -- "to open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light and from the power of satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me." (Acts 26:18)

It is for this latter reason that Paul was identified by his accusers as "a pestilent fellow" -- a "mover of sedition" -- a "ringleader of the sect." Because Paul recognized that what society values is not what Jesus values -- and thus, he was willing to preach to everyone that would listen that forgiveness of sins and inheritance follows those which are sanctified by the same faith that was in Paul. The Entrance of God's Word Gives Understanding - Part 724

Sometimes, even as believers, we need to be assured that when the storms of this world come against us, we have an unchangeable anchor in our Lord God and Saviour Jesus Christ. Indeed, as the scriptures state, wise men build their house upon this rock -- the rock being no other than the Lord God Himself who willingly shed His precious blood on the cross for you and I. Therefore, looking to another for one's salvation serves no purpose primarily because there is no other in whom we can experience His abundance of love and grace. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life." (John 14:6) Jesus -- "the only mediator between God and man." (I Timothy 2:5)

This is why we are encouraged to read His Word daily -- so that we can understand how much our heavenly Father loved us. And how far He was willing to go to prove His abundance of love for you and I. The scriptures state that "the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal." (I Corinthians 12:7) And that "every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." (James 1:17)

In this context then, our Lord is not a discerner of persons. Rather, He is unchangeable in His goodness for His beloved. The sun shines equally on those who have already willingly accepted Jesus into their lives and those who have not yet recognized His love, His grace and His mercy toward them. Why is this? Because He would that we would all come to Jesus.

The Spirit Life within Jesus -- that was the unchangeable Word of God -- desires that we would come to Him and willingly desire to do His will. The same Jesus that was the embodiment of God’s Word -- the same Jesus that is the very Word that was with God and was God -- desires our fellowship. (John 1:1-18) To this end, Jesus came forth in fleshly fashion as one of Abraham descendants. In fact, Jesus was the promised Seed of the Holy Spirit in which Seed all believing nations shall be blessed.

Herein, our hearts are the ground into which the Seed of truth seeks. Tis the same Seed that is spoken to all men through the mouth of Jesus in whom alone does the Living Word of God dwell. For it is written, "In Jesus dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily." (Colossians 2:9) The Seed Word spoken by Jesus in the scriptures is endeavouring to root in men and women today.

Therefore, set your affection on things above, and not on the things of this earth. For when you ask Jesus into your heart, you become dead to earthly matters. Your life is hid with Christ. And "when Christ who is our life shall appear, then shall you also appear with Him in glory." (Colossians 3:2-17)

Until that blessed day, may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost ... and through mighty signs and wonders by the power of the Spirit of God. (Romans 15:13-19) Stand in the offering plate.
