Jesus said, "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." (John 14:18)
When we truly take hold of these specific promises from the Lord, we will soon recognize how (in this life) to be careful for nothing. And also, how we who believe in the Lord Jesus by faith can make our requests known unto God with prayer and supplication and thanksgiving. Indeed, there is a scripture that informs us to pray without ceasing and to rejoice evermore, continually giving thanks for all the good things our Lord God and Saviour Jesus the Christ has done in our lives.
Admittedly, our faith journey is not without worldly difficulty but when we learn to trust in Jesus as both Lord and Christ, and follow His commandments -- the Word of God as it is written, we can walk boldly into the fray with His joy and peace and love reigning in our hearts. We can take hold of the gospel truths knowing that the waters will indeed part because the Lord Jesus walks with us in all our comings and goings, because we give Him all the honour and glory and praise in everything we do.
Why? Because we believe that Jesus (as both Lord and Christ) is our all in all, the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the ending. (Acts 2:36; Revelation 1:8)
The apostles understood this simple principle (that there was nothing that could happen to them) because in everything they did, wherein they worshipped the Lord Jesus -- He was with them and dwelling in them. It is in this context that we who believe in the Lord Jesus by faith are victorious, and conquerors because we know who holds our future.
But there is so much more to understand when it comes to prayer and supplications with thanksgiving. For example, Paul writes:
"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men ..." (I Timothy 2:1)
"... praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints!" (Ephesians 6:18)
As He saith concerning Jesus in another place, "Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Who in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto Him that was able to save Him from death, and was heard in that He feared; though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered; and being made perfect, He became the Author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him; called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec." (Hebrews 5:7)
Unto all them that obey Him! For God so loved the world that after His kindness and love toward men, He became our Saviour. His arms forever stretched on that cross, with a crown of thorns on His head, a sword piercing His side, and yet all the while willing out us to enter into His everlasting love and peace.
"And for this cause He is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance." (Hebrews 9:15)
Jesus saying, "This cup is the new testament in My blood, which is shed for you." (Luke 22:20)
In this current dispensation of grace, His Name is Jesus -- the Word made flesh. He was in the world and the world was made by Him and the world knew Him not. He came unto His own and His own received Him not. (John 1:10-11; I Timothy 3:16) Yes, meditate upon these things. Study the Word to show thyself approved unto God. (II Timothy 2:15)
And in your day to day, welcome "the God of hope fill[ing] you with all [His] joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost." (Romans 15:13)
Stand in the offering plate.
