"In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." (II Corinthians 4:4) But the scriptures have made it clear that we do not have to be blinded by the god of this world. Indeed, Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life." (John 14:6) Therefore, search the scriptures and discover that His Word -- "they are they which testify of Me." (John 5:39)
Hebrews chapter eight teaches that we live under a new covenant of grace -- a more excellent ministry -- because "He is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. For if that first covenant -- [the old covenant] had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second." The Lord said, "Behold, the days come when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not.
But because, saith the Lord. "This is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days. I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to Me a people. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more."
In fact, in that day, He said, "A new covenant, He hath made the first old. Now that which decays and wax old is ready to vanish away."
As we read further into Hebrews chapter nine, we begin to see the significance of the new covenant in terms of our salvation and forgiveness of sin. Beginning at the first verse:
"Verily, the first covenant [the old covenant] had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercy seat; of which we cannot now speak particularly. Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.
But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people."
But note the following scriptures. Herein, "the Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing: which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation."
"But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood He entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us."
"For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?"
Yes, it is for this cause He is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator lives -- whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood." (Hebrews 9:1-16)
Therefore, don't be blinded by the god of this world, for we are not of those who draw back in to perdition, but of them that believe unto the saving of the soul. (Hebrews 10:39)
Yes, the one and only -- our Lord God and Saviour. Jesus Christ -- the same yesterday and today and forever. Let him who hath ears to hear, hear. Stand in the offering plate.
