Sheltered in the arms of Jesus! If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not His only begotten Son -- His own humanity on the cross -- and then delivered Him up for us all to see, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect?
It is God that justifieth. Who then is he that condemneth? Indeed, it is Christ that died, yea, rather, that is risen again who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or word?
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, or any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
In considering this passage from Romans chapter eight, I came upon a song entitled, "Oh Love That Will Not Let Me Go." The lyrics were written by George Matheson, a blind Scottish pastor who even in his moment of distress knew that God was in control.
In his case, as the story goes, his fiance had rejected him two decades prior because she had learned of his impending blindness. As a consequence, Matheson sat down and wrote the following hymn in just a few minutes. He is on record saying that the words came “like a day spring from on high.”
Indeed, He that searches the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God' to them "who are the called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:27-28)
Remember, Jesus never fails so when the storm clouds rise and raging all around, know that you never have to worry because we are sheltered in the arms of Jesus. Who then shall separate us from the love of Jesus. Stand in the offering plate.
Lyrics: Oh, Love That Will Not Let Me Go by George Matheson
Oh, love that will not let me go
I rest my weary soul in thee
I give you back the life I owe
And in your ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be
My life is not my own
It's yours
My life is not my own
I know it's yours
Oh, light that follows all my way
I yield my flickering torch to thee
And my heart restores its borrowed ray
That in your sunshine's blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be
So light a fire in my heart
And I'll burn for you
So light a fire in my heart
And I'll burn for you
Oh, joy, that seeks me through the pain
I cannot close my heart to thee
I trace the rainbow through the rain
And feel the promise is not in vain
That morn shall tearless be
So anoint me with joy
And joyful I will be
So anoint me with joy
And joyful I will be
Oh, cross that's lifing up my head
I dare not ask to fly from thee
I lay in dust life's glory dead
And from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be
We will sing:
Holy, holy
Is the King of Kings
And we will sing:
Holy, holy
Is the King of Kings
On that day we will sing:
We will join with the angels and we will sing.
My life is not my own
It's yours
My life is not my own
I know it's yours
Oh, light that follows all my way
I yield my flickering torch to thee
And my heart restores its borrowed ray
That in your sunshine's blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be
So light a fire in my heart
And I'll burn for you
So light a fire in my heart
And I'll burn for you
Oh, joy, that seeks me through the pain
