For This Is My Covenant Unto Them When I Shall Take Away Their Sins, Saith the Lord God - Part 1872

Jesus said, “But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, He shall testify of Me …” (John 15:26)

In another place, Jesus said, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you.” (John 16:7)

These two scriptures in isolation could create confusion, but as we know from the scriptures, God is not the Author of confusion. So what exactly was Jesus saying here? First, we know that the promised Comforter is the Holy Ghost. (John 14:26) Second, the Comforter is the Spirit of truth, and similarly, the revealer of truth. In His Word, there are no hidden surprises for those that seek/love Him with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Mark 12:29-31; II Timothy 2:15) Third, this Spirit of truth which proceeds from the Father will testify of Jesus. And finally, when Jesus departs, He will send the Comforter unto us — so that He can dwell in our hearts.

Some express the revelation this way. Jesus went up in a glorified body and the Holy Ghost came down on Pentecost. Certainly, we know from Acts 1:2-3 that after Jesus was taken up, He [Jesus] through the Holy Ghost gave commandments unto the apostles whom He had chosen.

But there is much more to understand herein, and this is the focal point for this day. On the day of Pentecost, “the Spirit of truth” arrived, being poured out as promised on the120 believers gathered together in the upper room in Jerusalem. (Acts 1:4-5, 15; Acts 2:1-4) The disciples spoke in a variety of tongues — tongues of angels, and tongues of men — about the magnificent things of God. (Acts 2:5-11)

This marked the beginning of the new testament body of Christ church wherein Jesus is the Head. (Acts 1:19) We know this because the prophet Joel had foretold of this outpouring of the Holy Ghost before it actually happened. (Joel 2:28-32) Nevertheless, those in attendance, men from every nation, were witnessing the fulfillment of Joel’s prophecy in a manner that none of them had expected. Note that apostle Peter (standing with the eleven) spoke of salvation, and how this same Jesus whom these had crucified was both Lord and Christ. (Acts 2:36-38)

The Son of man is the Lord from glory. The first Adam, earthy, but the second Adam the Lord from Heaven. Yes, the same Spirit of the Lord God which moved upon the face of the waters in Genesis robed Himself in flesh to bring us His gift of salvation. He paid the ultimate price with His holy blood so that we could experience eternal standing in Him.

“He was in the world and the world was made by Him and the world knew Him not. He came unto His own and His own received Him not.” (John 1:10-11)

Therefore, when Jesus said, “I and My Father are One!” in John 10:30, and that if you have seen Him [Jesus] you have seen the Father in John 14:6-12, it was because the fullness of the Godhead dwelt bodily in Him.  (Colossians 2:9)

But the human flesh could not come into our hearts which is why Jesus told His disciples that He would be seen no more. Because the one Spirit referred to in Ephesians 4:4 — the hope of our calling — is our one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism.

The Lord came forth as a mighty man. (Isaiah 42:13; Isaiah 9:6) The Word was made flesh. (John 1:1-18) Jesus was God manifest in the flesh. (I Timothy 3:16) The Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the ending, King of kings and Lord of lords. (Revelation 1:8)

The same God with us, who would soon be in our hearts. His Name is JESUS for He shall save His people from their sins. (Matthew 1:18-23; Luke 1:35)

Thus, indeed, “this is the covenant I will make with them after those days,” says the Lord, “I will put My Laws in their hearts and inscribe them on their minds … This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” says the Lord. “I will put My laws in their minds, and inscribe them on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they will be My people.” (Hebrews 8:10; Hebrews 10:16)

"For this is My covenant unto them when I shall take away their sins." (Romans 11:27)

Don’t be deceived by modern day religious teachers who lead us astray from the greatest love story ever told. Rather, ask the Lord Jesus to come into your heart so that you also can know the truth that sets believers in Jesus by faith free from the bondage and entanglements of this world.

And remember, that Jesus said He will never leave us nor forsake us, but that He would lead and guide us into all truth. On the day of Pentecost, the disciples had experience the fulfillment of that ancient prophecy spoken of by Joel, and similarly, psalms by David. (Acts 2:14-18; Psalms 16:8-11; Psalms 110:1; Acts 2:25-28, 34-35)

The Lord has a plan for your life today. Let Him lead and guide you into all truth. Stand in the offering plate.
