“The Fear of the Lord Is the Beginning of Wisdom -- Part 1114

"Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?" (Galatians 4:16)

When put in this context, the statement makes for a thoughtful question. Am I therefore your enemy because I tell you the truth? Certainly, Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ consistently told others to call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord so "that in every thing, ye [can be] enriched by Him in all utterance and knowledge; even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you; so that ye come behind in no gift, waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ -- who shall also confirm you unto the end [that ye may be] blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ." (I Corinthians 1:1-8) In fact, Paul was beaten and imprisoned for teaching Jesus to the multitudes, and yet Paul continued to do so even when he was told not to preach in the name of Jesus specifically.

We also note that throughout Paul's writings, he "would not that ye should be ignorant." (I Corinthians 10:1)  "Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles." (Romans 1:13)

This is why Paul so diligently encourages us to seek personal time with Jesus -- through His Word.
Jesus said, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." (Matthew 6:33) This is why Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me." (John 14:6)

And for the same reason why Jesus said, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:32)

Because that is how much our Lord God and Saviour loved us -- indeed, even before the world was formed. The mystery that was hid in the bosom of the Father from the beginning of time. "No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared." (John 1:18)

Beginning in the tenth chapter of I Corinthians, let's be edified from apostle Paul's message to the church in Corinth.

"Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; and did all eat the same spiritual meat; and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them. As it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play."

Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say. "The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?" (I Corinthians 10:1-16)

As an aside, communion in this context is taken to mean fellowship. Continuing on ...

"For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread. Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar? What say I then? That the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?

But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. "Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils."

Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.

Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake, for the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof. If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake. But if any man say unto you, this is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof:

Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other. For why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience? For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God: Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved." (I Corinthians 10:17-33)

In other words, be ye followers of me, Paul wrote, even as I also am of Christ. (Romans 11:1) Remain steadfast in the apostles doctrine, including water baptism in the precious name of our Lord Jesus. (Acts 2:37-42) "And sanctify them through Thy truth ... Thy Word is truth." (John 17:17) Stand in the offering plate.
