Where else in the scriptures do we see the Lord is full of compassion?
"He hath made His wonderful works to be remembered: the Lord is gracious and full of compassion." (Psalm 111:4)
"Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness: He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous." (Psalm 112:4)
"The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy." (Psalm 145:8)
What else does the Lord do? He saves us from our enemies.
"The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;3 the God of my rock; in Him will I trust:
He is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my Saviour; Thou save me from violence. I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies." (II Samuel 22:2-4)
"... and the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away." (Isaiah 35:10)
"Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away." (Isaiah 51:11)"For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them." (Isaiah 61:7
Moreover, the Lord showers those who fear Him with endless hope for good! The prophet Isaiah speaks to this point, when he writes: "Art Thou not it which hath dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; that hath made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over? Therefore, the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.
I, even I, am He that comforts you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass; and forget the Lord thy Maker that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy and where is the fury of the oppressor?
The captive exile hastens that he may be loosed, and that he should not die in the pit, nor that his bread should fail.
But I am the Lord thy God, that divided the sea, whose waves roared: the Lord of hosts is His name. And I have put My words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of Mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, "Thou art My people!" (Isaiah 51:10-25)
And again, "And I will sow her unto Me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to [them which were] not My people, "Thou art My people;" and they shall say, "Thou art my God." (Hosea 2:23)
And just in case we missed it, let's hear the Lord's promise to His beloved one more time.
"And I have put My words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of Mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, "Thou art My people." (Isaiah 51:16)
This is why we can take comfort in the Lord's promises to His people.
"If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." (II Chronicles 7:14)
Lots of good scripture to meditate upon. Stand in the offering plate.
