In whom do we worship? This is important because "all people will walk every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the Name of the Lord our God for ever and ever." (Micah 4:5) But we need to know His Name. In that context, we understand that the Lord God has always revealed Himself to His people in a Name. Therefore, it should not be surprising that He has revealed Himself in a Name in these last times -- this current dispensation of grace.
As Jesus said, God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and in truth. (John 4:24) Apostle Paul confirms the same when he scribes, "That according as it is written -- he that glories, let him glory in the Lord." (I Corinthians 1:30-31) Note that it was Jeremiah who first wrote this Word of the Lord -- "Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise [man] glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty [man] glory in his might, let not the rich [man] glory in his riches, but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord which exercise loving kindness, judgment and righteousness, in the earth: for in these [places] I delight saith the Lord." (Jeremiah 9:24-25)
Why? Because God is like unto thee, that pardons iniquity, and passes by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage, and retains not His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. He will turn again and He will have compassion on us. He will subdue our iniquities, and Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. Indeed, "Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, [and] the mercy to Abraham, which Thou hast sworn unto the fathers from the days of old." (Micah 7:18-20; Exodus 15:11; Exodus 34:6-9; Micah 4:7; Psalm 103:8-13; Ezekiel 33:11; Luke 1:72-72; Psalm 105:9)
We begin to understand the Lord God revealed when Jesus was speaking to the woman at Jacob's well. Therein, Jesus must needs to go through Samaria. He had come to a city called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Jesus being wearied from his journey sat thus on the well and it was about the sixth hour. When the woman came to draw water, Jesus asks her to give Him a drink. But the woman, knowing that she was from Samaria questions Jesus, saying that the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
Jesus answers and said unto her, "If thou knew the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, "Give Me to drink" thou would have asked of Him, and He would have given thee living water." (John 4:10)
Jesus again states that whosoever drinks of this water from the well shall thirst again but whosoever drinks of the water that He gives shall never thirst again, but "shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." (John 4:14) The conversation continues in John 4.
When Jesus tells everything to the woman about herself, she perceives Jesus to be a prophet.
She then says to Jesus, "Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and Ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship." Jesus saith unto her, "Woman, believe Me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in Spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth."
The woman saith unto Him, "I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when He is come, He will tell us all things." (John 4:20-25)
When she realized that Jesus was the promised Christ, what did she do? She went into the city and told everyone to "come" for herein is Jesus the Christ. The same Jesus who Peter (standing withe the eleven) proclaimed on the day of Pentecost to be both Lord and Christ. (Acts 2:36)
"Who are Israelites; to whom [pertaineth] the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; whose [are] the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ [came], who is over all -- God blessed forever, amen." Not as though the Word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel; neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children; but In Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is, they which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed." (Romans 9:4-8; Hebrews 13:10-14 Philemon 3:3 John 1:17 II Corinthians 3:17)
So much to learn and understand. Nevertheless, one truth remains. Jesus is God manifest in the flesh as a Son until He was taken up, wherein Jesus gave commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen. Jesus said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you" but He had to leave if the Comforter -- the Holy Ghost -- the Spirit of our Lord God and Saviour Jesus Himself was to come and dwell within us.
"Now the Lord is that Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." (II Corinthians 3:17) The first Adam was made a living soul. The last Adam was made a quickening Spirit. (I Corinthians 15:45)
His Name is JESUS, for He alone shall save His people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21-23; Acts 4:12; Philippians 2:9)
Stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the Name of the Lord God, and abide; for now shall He be great unto the ends of the earth. (Micah 5:4) And He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.
Stand in the offering plate.
