In the last post, we mentioned church-ianity -- the religious culture that oft times takes us 'away' from the Word of the Lord rather than to the One and Only Great Shepherd who laid down His life for you and I. He is the greatest love story ever told -- when the same God who created us in the beginning, willingly became our Saviour.
For after the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared! (Titus 3:4-7)
But often, in our faith journey, we are confronted with church/religious teachings that don't align with the Word, and we are forced to reconcile what we have been taught with what the Word of the Lord actually states.
One of these religious strongholds is the law -- even though the Word states, "For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect! For then would they not have ceased to be offered? Because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins." (Hebrews 10:1-2)
But as we know, we still have conscience of sins if we have not come to Jesus the Christ with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. (Mark 12:29-31; Deuteronomy 6:4) Why is this? Because the law is a schoolmaster to bring us to Christ.
"Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster; for ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus ... for as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ." (Galatians 3:24-27)
It is for this reason the Lord saith, "Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast Thou prepared Me." (Hebrews 10:5; Genesis 3:15; Hebrews 1:6) Indeed, the Lord had no pleasure in sacrifice and burnt offerings (ordinances), "which are offered by the law." (Hebrews 10:8)
Thus, as the Lord said, "Lo, I come to do Thy will O God. He taketh away the first, that He may establish the second ... by the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." (Hebrews 10:9)
"I will make with them after those days," saith the Lord, "I will put My laws into their hearts and in their minds will I write them, and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more!" (Hebrews 10:16-17)
"Now where remission of these is, there is no ore offering for sin. Having therefore brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which He hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say His flesh; and having an high priest over the house of God; let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water, let us hold fast the profession of our faith without waverings (for He is faithful that promised!)." (Hebrews 10:18-23)
