No Other Name Under Heaven Whereby We Must Be Saved - Part 1343

"In the name of God." We hear this phrase so often but rarely do we seek an answer by asking, "What is God’s name?" For God is surely a descriptive title, never being a name. And similarly in this context, if one is utilizing a descriptive title, then why not expose to others whom it is that you are calling God? I am sure these listeners must -- at the very least be curious. Aren't you?

Who is this God that we speak about? We face the same question when we look and see the phrase, "In God We Trust." Or, "God bless you!" If we are going to expect God to do something, should we not know who it is that we are asking to bless you?

Further to the point, there [apparently] is an abundance of gods that people tend to worship, even if they know not what. For example, taking a feel good pill or trying to find life in the bottom of a beer or liquor bottle can be considered gods because they consume us in a way that is god-like. We take on new characteristics that are not necessarily evident before. And, certainly, if we do not know who God is -- by name, I mean -- we cannot expect this same God to have renewed our hearts and minds.

So, again, who is this God, whose name we do not know?  Let's examine the scriptures and determine once and for all who God is.

We've all heard that God is Love. We also recognize that God is not a respecter of persons. God has not two laws, one for the rich and another for the poor! Indeed, God made each and every one of us equal. And God does not use threats to tell us how much He loves me. But I do know from reading the scriptures how much God loves me.

Similarly, we find in reading the scriptures that God Has a name. In fact, it is as a result of knowing that name and calling upon that name that one can be saved, and blessed. Indeed, apart from knowing God’s revealed name, confusion rules and reigns. We've seen this time and time again throughout history. Nations upon hearing God’s name go from being a 'have-not' nation to a 'have' nation. Conversely, nations that at one time were aware of God’s name but have since turned their backs to God often begin a downward spiral.

Still, what is in a name? What do names represent? You as a individual would never let anyone misrepresent or discredit your name. Why? Because your name is you! It dictates who you are. And in fact, your name will outlive you. Your offspring bear your name.

Likewise, when you know God’s name and have grown to know the One God who bears that name, then you would not by any means desire to discredit or misrepresent His name. In this sense, neither Jehovah or Yahweh are God’s name! God never revealed either as being His name.

But there is a name, as the scriptures repeatedly point out, which is above every other name in Heaven and on earth. And the One who bears that name is the One God, who is before all things. He is also the One God who made all things! This One God who is Spirit has revealed HIMSELF as a Son. He did not reveal Himself as another person!

God who is Spirit, inhabited a man’s body, endeavouring to reveal Himself to His people. Us. You and I. And indeed, this God who is love bears the name of JESUS! And she shall call His name Jesus for He shall save His people from their sins. Even the Angels worship Him. And the wise men worship Him too.

God manifest in the flesh. The same Word that was God and is God made flesh. Jesus is the Light of the world. Jesus is the Bread of Life. Jesus is the living water whereby we never thirst again. Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father but by Me."

Why don't you put your trust in Jesus today so that He can wrap you in His arms, and be the heavenly Father that He desires to be. And thus, in so doing, you can be blessed too. Stand in the offering plate.

Take Heed to the Ministry Which Thou Hast Received in the Lord, That Thou Fulfill It - Part 1342

"Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved ..." (Mark 16:15-16)

Jesus instructed believers in Jesus by faith to go out into the world and preach the gospel. The Word that was with God and was God, and was made flesh so that we could receive His precious gift of salvation. And, as a consequence of repenting, and acknowledging that Jesus Christ is Lord of all in our hearts, being water baptized by immersion in His name -- the name of the Lord Jesus. (Acts 2:36-47)

Often, when we think about Jesus, we think of His twelve appointed disciples, and how Judas fell by transgression, which later led to the appointing of Matthias to replace Judas. (Acts 1:24-26) And it is like these twelve remain a stagnant figure within our mind. Yet, as the disciples waited in Jerusalem for the promised power from on high, the number of followers of Jesus had multiplied -- the number of names together were an hundred and twenty. (Acts 1:13-15)

And then when the day of Pentecost had fully come, we see three thousand souls were pricked in their hearts, having just learned that this same Jesus whom ye had crucified is both Lord and Christ. (Acts 2:36)

"Then they that gladly received His Word were baptized, and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers, and fear came upon every soul; and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles." (Acts 2:37-43)

And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. (Acts 2:47)

This brings me back to my original point. While we like to think of Jesus with the twelve, there were so many more disciples of Jesus whom are mentioned in passing in the scriptures, but of which we know very little about. Apostle Paul in writing to Philemon "our dearly beloved, and fellow labourer" and to Apphia, and Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in thy house, mentions several believers.

In mentioning these disciples of Jesus by name, we begin to see how the body of Christ works together in one accord to fulfilling the mission of the gospel in the world today. In other words, we begin to see glimpses of real people and their response to Jesus call to "follow Me." (Matthew 4:19; Matthew 8:22; Matthew 9:9; Matthew 16:24; Matthew 19:21; Mark 2:14; Mark 8:34; Mark 10:2;1 Luke 5:27; Luke 9:23, 59; Luke 18:22; John 10:27; John 12:26;John 21:19)

First, there is "beloved Apphia" mentioned only once in Philemon 1:2, but worthy of mention as beloved nevertheless.

Then there is Archippus "our fellow soldier" -- also mentioned in Colossians 4:17. And says to Archippus, "Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, and thou fulfill it." (Colossians 4:17)

To both Paul wrote, "Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers, hearing of they love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus and toward all thy saints." (Philemon 1:1-5)

Marcus mentioned briefly as a fellow labourer with Aristarchus, Demas and Lucas in Philemon 1:24, is also referred to in Colossians 4:10. "Aristarchus my fellow prisoner salutes you, and Marcus, sister's son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him)." He is also referenced in I Peter 5.

"But the God of all grace who hath called us unto His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever, amen. By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of god wherein ye stand. The church [that is] at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you, and [so does] Marcus my son. Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace [be] with you all, that are in Christ Jesus. Amen." (I Peter 5:10-14)

Silvanus is mentioned three other times. He preached with Paul, as did Timotheus, and described as a "faithful brother unto you."

"By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand." (I Peter 5:12)

"For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, [even] by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in Him was yea. For all the promises of God in Him are yea, and in Him, amen, unto the glory of God by us. Now He which stablish us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, God -- who hath sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts ... not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy; for by faith ye stand." (II Corinthians 1:19-24) Silvanus and Timotheus are also mentioned when writing unto the church of the Thessalonians. (I Thessalonians 1:1; II Thessalonians 1:1)

The faith journey and discipleship of Timotheus -- a fellow worker and brother to the saints and faithful brethren in Christ is well recorded in the scriptures. (Romans 16:21; Colossians 1:1-2)

"Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek. (Acts 16:1)

"And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotheus, abode there still. And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed." (Acts 17:14-15)

"And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ." (Acts 18:5) "So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season." (Acts 19:22) "And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus." (Acts 20:4)

"For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church." (I Corinthians 4:17)

"Now if Timotheus come, see that he may be with you without fear: for he works the work of the Lord, as I also do ... My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen. (I Corinthians 16:10, 24; II Corinthians 1:19)

"Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons ... But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state." (Philippians 1:1; Philippians 2:19)

But not just to the church in Philippi, but to the church of the Thessalonians as well.

"Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ." (I Thessalonians 1:1)

"And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellow labourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith .... but now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you." (I Thessalonians 3:2; I Thessalonians 3:6; II Thessalonians 1:1)

"Timotheus my work fellow, and Lucius, and Jason, and Sosipater, my kinsmen, salute you." (Romans 16:21)

Prophet and teacher Lucius appears in Acts 13:1 -- "Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul." (Acts 13:1)

We first see Jason -- (a kinsman according to Romans 16:21) when the Jews that believed not were moved with envy and assaulted the house of Jason.

"But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also ... whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus ... and when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go." (Acts 17:5-9)

It would appear that not much is known of Soipater, only being mentioned once in the scriptures -- "Timotheus my work fellow, and Lucius, and Jason, and Sosipater, my kinsmen, salute you." (Romans 16:21)

Then there is Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, "who is for you a faithful minister of Christ," who is one of you, a servant of Christ, "always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God." (Colossians 1:7; Colossians 4:12; Philemon 1:23)

Lucas is described as a fellow labourer in Jesus and a friend to Paul while imprisoned. (Philemon 1:23)

Indeed, Paul and Timotheus to the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are in Colosse acknowledges these and Tychicus too. Tychicus "declared unto you, who is a beloved brother and a faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord, whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate [circumstances] and comfort your hearts." (Colossians 4:7-8)

"And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus, and Trophimus." (Acts 20:4)

"But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things ..," (Ephesians 6:21)

"And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus." (II Timothy 4:12) "When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis, for I have determined there to winter." (Titus 3:12)

Artemus, like Sopater of Berea, Quartus a brother, and Secundus are mentioned only once. But Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minster and fellow servant in the Lord much more often, having been sent to Ephesus, and possibly to Nicopolis, wherein Paul was determined to winter. (Colossians 4:7; II Timothy 4:12; Titus 3:12)

"And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus." (Acts 20:4) Paul instructs Tychicus in Ephesians, saying, "But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things ... grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity, amen." (Ephesians 6: 21-24)

The faith journey of Gaius of Derbe is also elaborated on, Gaisu mine host (whom Paul had baptized and whom he loved in the truth), and of the whole church, writes Paul, "saluteth you." (Romans 16:23; I Corinthians 1:14; III John 1:1).

"And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre." (Acts 19:29; Acts 20:4)

"Gaius mine host, and of the whole church, saluteth you. Erastus the chamberlain of the city saluteth you, and Quartus a brother." (Romans 16:23)

Erastus was sent with Timotheus into Macedonia to minister unto the man in whom the evil spirit was, and as a consequence, the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified, while Paul himself stayed in Asia for a season. (Acts 19:1-23) Erastus abode at Corinth. (II Timothy 4:20)

"Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick," writes Paul, which is an interesting sidebar given that Paul sent handkerchiefs to those who were sick and they were healed. (II Timothy 4:20) Trophimus was an Ephesian, "whom they supposed that \Paul had brought into the temple." (Acts 21:29) After the uproar over the Ephesian goddess Diana had ceased, and the people somewhat appeased, Paul called unto him certain disciples and had given them much exhortation. Trophimus is one of those disciples who accompanied him into Asia -- these going before tarried for us at Troas. (Acts 20:1-5) Nothing more is said.

" ... with Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here. " (Colossians 4:18)

"I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds ..." (Philemon 1:10)

"They shall make known unto you all things which are done here. Aristarchus my fellow servant salutes you, and Marcus, sister's son to Barnabas (touching whom ye received commandments; if he come unto you receive him;) and Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These ONLY are my fellow workers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me ...

... Epaphras who is one of you, a servant of Christ saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God, for I bear him record that he hath a great zeal for you, and them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis, Luke the beloved physician and Demas, greet you. Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house. And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea, and say to Archippus, "Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfill it. The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you, Amen." (Colossians 4:7-18)

And then there is Demas who along with Luke the beloved physician greets us, and "salutethe brethren which are in Laodicea and Nymphas, ad the church which is in his house. And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also int he church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the [epistle] from Laodicea, and say to Archippus, "take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfill it." (Colossians 4:14-18; Philemon 1:24)

According to these particular scriptures, all was well with Demas, and then we read, "For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia." (II Timothy 4:10)

We are never told whether Demas eventually came back to the Lord Jesus in his heart. However, what we can learn from this is that there are those who begin in the Lord and then, sadly turn back, loving this present world more than that which is to come. But we can be assured like these many other disciples, that God has called us to fulfill His purpose, that He placed in our heart whilst we were still in our mother's womb. And, as a consequence, our calling is much higher than that of this world.

Be blessed in the name of our Lord God and Saviour, Jesus the Christ. Stand in the offering plate.

Even So Grace Might Reign Through Righteousness Unto Eternal Life by Jesus our Lord; Jesus Is Lord Of All - Part 1341

Imagine stating that Jesus is Lord of all, or that this Jesus whom ye crucified is both Lord and Christ, in a religious culture that stones people to death or imprisons them for preaching in the name of Jesus. And yet, we see Peter with Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band (who was a devout man and feared God with all his house) saying to him these exact words -- "Jesus is Lord of all!"

JESUS IS LORD OF ALL!

And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet to worship him. But Peter took him up, saying, "Stand up; I myself also am a man." And, as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together, and he said unto them:

"Ye know how that is is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation, but God hath showed me that I should not call any man common or unclean. Therefore, came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for; I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent me?"

And Cornelius said, "Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and, at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing. And said, "Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God. Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side, who, when he comes, shall speak unto thee." (Acts 10:24-32)

"Immediately, therefore, I sent to thee, and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore, are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God." (Acts 10:33)

Then Peter opened his mouth and said, "Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons; but in every nation he that fears him, and works righteousness, is accepted with him. The Word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ (He is Lord of all), that Word, [I say] ye know which was published throughout all Judaea and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him.

And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem, whom they slew and hanged on a tree; Him -- God raised up the third day and showed Him openly, not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, [even] to us, who did eat and drink with Him after He rose from the dead. And He commanded us to preach unto the people and to testify that it is He which was ordained of God [to be] the Judge of quick and dead. To Him give all the prophets witness, that through His name whosoever believes in Him shall receive remission of sins." (Acts 10:34-43)

While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the Word.

All of them which heard the Word, and believed that through His name they shall receive remission of sins.

But they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, ass many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles ALSO was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.

Then answered Peter, "Can any man forbid water. that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Peter commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. (Acts 10:47-48)

We can see here that Peter has not changed his stance from the day of Pentecost, when he instructed the first 3,000 souls saved to repent and be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and they shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:36-47)

Apostle Paul had a similar love for the people of Israel in Romans 10. Therein, Paul writes, "For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God but not according to knowledge, for they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God ... for Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believes.

For Moses describes the righteousness which is of the law -- "that the man which does those things shall live by them." (Romans 10:5; Leviticus 18:5)

BUT the righteousness which is of faith speaks on this wise, "Say not in thine heart -- who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above). Or, who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead). But what saith it? The Word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth and in thy heart: that is, the Word of faith which we preach .... that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:6-9)

Did you catch the "but" between Moses and Jesus?  Moses describes the righteousness which is of the law (old covenant), but Jesus speaks about the righteousness which is of faith (new testament). The righteousness that He Himself delivered when He -- the Word -- God manifest in the flesh -- shed His precious blood on the cross for you and I.

"But God commends His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by the blood, we shall be saved by His life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement ... therefore, as by the offence of one [judgement came] upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one [the free gift came] upon all men unto justification of life." (Romans 5:8-18)

"Thus, with the heart man believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation, for the scripture saith: "Whosoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed." For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek; for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:10-13)

What is the name of the Lord? JESUS.

How do we know? Because Peter (standing with the eleven) on the day of Pentecost declared this same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, BOTH Lord and Christ. (Acts 2:36)

And she shall call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21-23)

So, the next time someone stuck in the religious culture wants to tell you about the trinity, tell them about the conversation between Peter and Cornelius. Tell them what the Word says, and how much our Lord God and Saviour Jesus the Christ loves us to willingly hang on that cross for you and I.

"That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 5:21)

And They Continued Steadfastly In the Apostles' Doctrine and Fellowship, And In Breaking of Bread, And In Prayers - Part 1340

"And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus ... that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief." (I Timothy 1:14-15)

JESUS said that when the Spirit of truth is come, He shall lead and guide you into all truth. He shall bring all things to your remembrance. Paul's words to Timothy were, "If you shall put the brethren in  remembrance of these things, then you shall be a good minister of the Lord JESUS the Christ. The instructions were to appoint elders in every city so that those who were appointed should preach no other doctrine."

Acts 15 elaborates on this point. It is the first apostolic gathering with the elders and the people. There is a discussion on the error of Peter's ways. As we learn from reading the scriptures, he was advancing a position that stated the Gentiles must keep the law of Moses and be circumcised. Note that Paul admonished Peter face to face and the contention over this matter was brought to pass in this apostolic assembly.

The result of the meeting was telling. Simply put, Paul was right and Peter was wrong. Peter had attempted to straddle the fence in an endeavor to appease the Jews. Unfortunately, as we learn from the scriptures, his plan was not going to work. Indeed, Peter had attempted to make the new testament a continuation of the old covenant of law, commanding that the Gentiles keep the Law and be circumcised.

Notably four things were established here. These four points were then written in letters and personally delivered to the church assemblies, so that there could be no error. The letters read thus:

Inasmuch as some went out from us troubling you commanding that you keep the Law and be circumcised, TO WHOM WE GAVE NO SUCH COMMANDMENT, it seemed good to the Holy Ghost and to us to lay upon you no greater burden other than these necessary things'  That is, to keep yourself from fornication - and from blood - and from things strangled -  and from idols - from which if you keep yourself you shall do well. Fare you well.

It is recorded that the church assemblies upon reading and hearing the message contained within the letters, had great consolation! So should we. The teachings of the Holy Ghost were the teachings of JESUS. Remember, Acts 1:2-3?

"Until the day in which He was taken up, after that He THROUGH the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom He had chosen, to whom also He shewed Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the Kingdom of God." (Acts 1:2-3)

For it is written that JESUS -- after He ascended up into Heaven, He through His holy Spirit gave commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen. They in turn delivered His Holy Ghost teachings to us so that there would be no division among us. For the Spirit and the Word - are one and the same  - for the Word is God - and God is the Word - God being one Spirit!

One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism. (Ephesians 4:5)

God confirmed these apostolic teachings. Certainly, the Holy Ghost was given through the laying of  the hands of the apostles. In Acts chapter 8, Philip preached and mighty signs and wonders were performed. The Samaritans believed and were baptized in water into the Name of Jesus but they did not receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost until the apostles Peter and John arrived, who prayed for them that they might receive.

Simon saw that through the laying of  the apostles' hands that the Holy Ghost was given. Immediately, he offered them money that he might purchase the power of this gift. Peter told Simon that his money along with himself will perish if he thinks that the baptism of the Holy Ghost could be purchased with money. Yes, there are many spirits gone out into the world which is why we should test the spirits as to whether they are of God, or conversely, a lying spirit.

For if they speak not according to this Word, then they are not of God. The believers continued steadfastly in the apostolic Holy Ghost teaching for these are the very foundation of the church which is the body of JESUS the Christ.

Jesus is the Head of the church.  PEACE BE to all who are earnestly contending for the faith that was personally delivered by our Lord God and Saviour Jesus the Christ. Stand in the offering plate.

Delight Thyself In the Lord And He Shall Give Thee The Desires of Thine Heart - Part 1339

"Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord: and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass." (Psalm 37:1-5)

Throughout the old covenant, the Lord was often critical of those in positions of power who did not give glory unto His name. "If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay [it] to heart, to give glory unto the Lord of hosts ..." (Malachi 2:2) Repeatedly, the Lord would say, "Hear the Word of the Lord, ye children of Israel; for the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land." (Hosea 4:1)

As a consequence of not turning to the Lord, He told the people, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to Me, seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." (Hosea 4:6)

How the Lord must have grieved through these times knowing that if we would only seek the Lord, how quickly He would turn things around, and give us the innermost desires of our heart. (Please note -- we are not talking about money here. Tithing is an old covenant teaching that has stolen the blessings from the people of God.) Rather, in this current dispensation of grace, the Lord wants all, of us -- our heart, soul, mind and strength -- because He gave us His all for you and I on the cross. A perfect sacrifice so that we could be saved from our sins.

"And she shall bring forth a son and thou shalt call His name JESUS, for He shall save His people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21)

And the angel said unto Mary, a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David, "Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call His name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest, and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David, and He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever and of His kingdom there shall be no end."

Then said Mary unto the angel, "How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?" And the angel answered and said unto her, "The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee, therefore, also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God." (Luke 1:31-35; Isaiah 7:14)

In other words, Mary was found with child of the Holy Ghost. (Matthew 1:18)

"And Jacob begat Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born JESUS, who is called Christ." (Matthew 1:16)

"And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, His name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before He was conceived in the womb. And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present [Him] to the Lord; (as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;) and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons." (Luke 2:21-24; Leviticus 12:2-8; Deuteronomy 18:4; Exodus 13:2-15)

JESUS -- the name above every other name. (Philippians 2:9)

JESUS -- the only name to which every person will soon bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord over all -- wherefore, God also hath highly exalted Him and given Him a name which is above every name.  (Philippians 2:9-11)

JESUS -- neither is there salvation in any other, for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)

JESUS -- whom Peter (standing with the apostles) declared both Lord and Christ. (Acts 2:36)

And yet, the very name in which we are instructed to do everything -- in both word and deed -- is diminished by the world at large. (Colossians 3:17) Even the religious community has designated the name of JESUS to be lesser, claiming the false teaching and religious dogma of a trinity, or tri-une god as evidence. How quickly the Lord would return us to Him and give us our heart's desires, if we would stop listening to those who proclaim to know the truth, and are rather empty vessels, and take the time to search the scriptures ourselves for truth.

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, "All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth." (Matthew 28:18)

ALL POWER is given unto Jesus. ALL authority is given unto Jesus. And even the angels worship Him.

"God who at sundry times and in diverse manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets hath in these last days spoken unto us by [His] Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of [His] glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the Word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; being made so much better than the angels, as He hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they .... and let all the angels of God worship Him." (Hebrews 1:1-13)

JESUS was the culmination of prophecies told afore. JESUS was the plan of salvation decided before the world was formed. JESUS -- to whom the world has been put in subjection -- "all things in subjection under His feet." (Hebrews 2:6-8)

"But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man. For it became Him for whom all things, and by whom all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. For both He that sanctifies and they who are sanctified are of one; for which cause He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying, "I will declare Thy name unto my brethren in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto Thee." And, again, "I will put my trust in Him," And again, "Behold, I and the children which God hath given Me." (Hebrews 2:8-13)

"For He must reign till He hath put all enemies under His feet ... for He hath put all things under His feet. But when He saith all things that put under Him it is manifest that He is excepted, which did put all things under Him, and when all things shall be subdued unto Him, then shall the Son also Himself be subject unto Him that put all things under Him, that God may be all in all." (I Corinthians 15:1-29)

How can this be, you ask, if God is not a tri-une God? We need to read further in the scriptures, and not stop studying in places whereby God has only just begun elaborating on His perfect plan of salvation. That is, the mystery that was held in the bosom of the Father from the foundation of the world. As believers in Jesus by faith, we need to desire knowledge of the conclusion. We need to understand the ending, putting on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. (Ephesians 4:24)

The truth is in Jesus. (Ephesians 4:21)

"And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam [was made] a quickening Spirit. Howbeit that [was] not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural, and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth -- earthy; and the second man is the Lord from heaven." (I Corinthians  15:45-47)

"And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but He that came down from heaven, [even] the Son of man which is in heaven ... that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life ... he that believes on Him is not condemned but he that believes not is condemned already, because HE HATH NOT BELIEVED IN THE NAME OF THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD.

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil ... but he that does truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God." (John 3:13-21)

Yes, as John the baptist said when he stated that he is not the Christ but rather the one that is sent before Him that, "He that comes from above is above all; he that is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He that comes from heaven is ABOVE all, and what He hath seen and heard, that He testifies, and no man receives His testimony. He that receives His testimony hath set to His seal that God is true.

For He whom God hath sent speaks the words of God, for God gives not the Spirit by measure [unto Him]. The Father loves the Son and hath given ALL things into His hand. He that believes on the Son hath everlasting life; and he that believes not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides in him." (John 3:26-36)

Jesus told us, "For the bread of God is He which comes down from heaven and gives life unto the world. ... I am the Bread of life; he that comes to Me shall never hunger and he that believes on Me shall never thirst." (John 6:33-35)

But sadly, even today, there are too many that want to take away from Jesus, referring to other names God was known by in the old testament. These deny that Jesus is the bread which came down from heaven. These deny that Jesus is the Bread of life. These want to diminish what Jesus said when He stated, "I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If any man eat of this bread, He shall live forever, ad the bread that I will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." (John 6:43-51)

Jesus told the Jews, "Ye are from beneath. I am from above. Ye are of this world. I am not of this world. I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins, for if ye believe not that I am He, ye shall die in your sins." (John 8:20-24)

Why? Because as Jesus said, "Ye neither know Me, nor My Father: if ye had known Me, ye should have known My Father also." (John 8:19)

As Jesus later said, "I and My Father are ONE." (John 10:30) God manifest in the flesh. (I Timothy 3:16) He was in the world and the world was made by Him and the world knew Him not. He came unto His own and His own received Him not. (John 1:10-11)

Let's not be one of those who refuses to believe that Jesus is God Almighty in a sin-prone flesh (and yet without sin) so that He could offer the perfect sacrifice for our sins -- once and for all. For, if doubting Thomas (as the world names Thomas) could thrust his hands into Jesus' side, and acknowledge Him saying, "My Lord and my God" surely, we can do the same.

"One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism. One God and Father of all who is above all, and through all, and in you all." (Ephesians 4:5-6) Had it been any other way, Jesus would have told us. Because He is the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. The King of kings and Lord of lords. The One and Only God Almighty which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. (Revelation 1:8,11)

Yes, the Lord came forth as a mighty man. (Isaiah 42:13) The Word that was with God and was God made flesh. (John 1:14) Be ye therefore partakers with Him for His mercy is good to those who love Him with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. Stand in the offering plate.

Consider Him That Endured Such Contradiction of Sinners Against Himself - Part 1338

"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Hebrews 12:1-2)

For consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaks unto you as unto children, "My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of Him: for whom the Lord loves he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives. If ye endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chastens not?

Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby ... wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; and make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

And know, beyond a shadow of a doubt how much you are loved. If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, and not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your [new] life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory. (Colossians 3:1-4)

You see, when we ask Jesus into our heart, and are water baptized in His name according to Acts 2:36-47, we receive a kingdom which cannot be moved. We stand firm on the Rock of ages -- which is Jesus the Christ. We are given the boldness to continue in the faith, grounded and settled and to not be moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to ever creature, which is under heaven. (Colossians 1:23)

Therefore, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear, for our God is a consuming fire.

But Hath In Due Times Manifested Through Preaching Which Is Committed Unto Me According to the Commandment of God Our Saviour - Part 1337

"Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; who was faithful to Him that appointed Him , as also Moses was faithful in all his house. For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses in as much as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house -- for every house is builded by some [man] but He that built all things is God." (Hebrews 3:1-4)

Let's consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession Jesus, who had taken upon Himself to take on a lower fashion in appearance than that of the angelic hosts. In order for Jesus to redeem man from His fallen state, He would have to become the perfect sacrifice -- tasting death for every man, (the Just for the Unjust). He Himself who knew no sin becoming sin so that we might have eternal life.

Indeed, the plan was for Him to fulfill the determination of that which had already been predetermined before the very foundation of the earth. That is He, the Lamb of God, would be delivered into the midst of wicked men and be slain, thereby achieving opportunity for the lost to have redemption. In other words, He Himself taking away the sin of all those individuals who call upon His Name - "JESUS"

He, God Himself as a son conceived of the Holy Ghost (as a child) to be veiled in sinful flesh , thereby enabling the predetermined counsel of God to be manifest. He was in the world and the world was made by Him but the world knew Him not, as John recorded. (John 1:1-18) Further, John states that his hands handled of the Word of Life.

Again, this plan of salvation was decided before the foundation of the world was formed. Abraham had it revealed to him that in his seed would all the nations of the earth be blessed. That seed of blessing was the seed of the Spirit of JESUS. Like Simeon of old, who upon seeing Jesus in the temple as a babe, adopted a prayerful attitude before God saying, “Now let your servant depart in peace for my eyes have seen your salvation."

The salvation being the Lord's Christ.

Why? Because there is none righteous in God’s eyes. No, not one. Therefore, God Himself made a way. The same God Himself who created the world as a son became man's Saviour. He came to sacrifice Himself. He offered His own flesh. which had been capable of sin but had not sinned. Instead, He walked in the Spirit accomplishing His Father's business. He became a propitiation for sin. His own blood, the blood of His holy Spirit shed once and once for all.

As a consequence, there is no more or other sacrifice for sin. JESUS, the only priestly mediator presenting Himself to the world was sacrificed, causing the veil of the temple to be rent in two from top to bottom. He did so that we who believe in Him can now come boldly to God’s throne of Grace with thanksgiving and praise. So grateful for His redemption plan. Redeemed by God Himself as a son!

Who then would dare to say that this sacrifice was inadequate?

Yes, Jesus the Christ died for our sins, and He arose from death for our justification. Give Him the honour and glory He deserves -- the honour and glory He is so worthy of.

"For it became Him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings -- for both He that sanctifies and they who are sanctified are all of one, for which cause He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying, "I will declare Thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto Thee," and again, "I will put my trust in Him" and again, "Behold I and the children which God hath given Me" ... for as much then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise took part of the same that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage ..." (Hebrews 2:9-18)

This is why we only see Jesus who was made a little lower than the angels but is now crowned with glory and honour that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man, including you and I.

Behold the Lamb of God - Part 1336

Jesus said, "And, behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give every man according as His work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into that city ..." (Revelation 22:12-14)

The prophets of older times endeavoured to confirm a date for when the Spirit of Christ - God’s spiritual humanity - would come to pass, particularly in relation to the sufferings of the Christ (humanity of God) and the glory (outpouring of God’s Spirit) which would follow after the crucifixion of the Christ! (God’s sinless body)

The prophets knew that JESUS would become a Lamb slain because the plan of salvation - Jesus being slain - was constructed prior to the very foundation of the earth ever being established. God had at different times and in various manners spoken to those individuals who were our forefathers. However, in this last dispensation of time - the New Testament - the Spirit of God in these last days has spoken to us by and in and through His Son. This happened when God who is Spirit stepped forth out of Himself in fashion as a visible spiritual Son.

Yes, the same God who is Spirit is the Alpha and Omega (the beginning and the ending) of all. This explains why no man knows the mind of the Lord and no one has been His Counselor. Whatever the Spirit of God determines shall surely come to pass. In this context, God is constantly revealing Himself like a scroll, being rolled out gradually down through the ages like a play with many scenes unfolding.

Therefore, God alone orchestrates the hidden plan whereby even the angels are participants. Note here that the angels too remain in the dark as to the mysterious workings of the Lord. God who is Spirit decides (when counselling with Himself) that He is going to create a visible world, a world in creation that will in visible created form be an exact visible image of the invisible world.

In other words, God who is Spirit came forth of Himself in visible form as a Son. He brought forth His only begotten, the mystery that was held in His bosom from the beginning of time.  The same God who is invisible comes forth -- made flesh and thus, visible, appearing as a Son. (John 1:1-18) God manifest in the flesh. (I Timothy 3:16) The beginning of the creation of God being that God the invisible would reveal Himself in created form in these last days.

Note that I say "created form" -- not created. John says -- "made flesh and dwelt among us." (John 1:14) He was in the world and the world was made by Him and the world knew Him not. He came unto His own and His own received Him not. (John 1:10-11) The Lord coming forth as a mighty man. (Isaiah 42:13; Isaiah 9:6) The Word that was with God and was God made flesh. Because of His kindness, God became our Saviour. (Titus 3:4-7)

In all things then, God must have the pre-eminence. This is why the commandments state that we shall have no other gods before Him. That beside Almighty God, there is no other. One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism.

And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that [Jesus] had answered them well, asked Him, "Which is the first commandment of all?" And Jesus answered him, "The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is One Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." There is none other commandment greater than these." (Mark 12:28-31; Deuteronomy 6:4)

This is why we give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love which ye have to all the saints.

"For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the Word of the truth of the gospel, which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringing forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of, and knew the grace of God in truth ... that y might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God -- strengthened with His might, according to His glorious power, unto all patience and long suffering with joyfulness, giving thank unto the Father which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light; who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated into the kingdom of His dear Son in whom we have redemption through His blood, [even] the forgiveness of sins -- who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature." (Colossians 1:1-15)

For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers; all things were created by Him and for Him, and HE IS BEFORE ALL THINGS, AND BY HIM ALL THINGS CONSIST ... AND HE IS THE HEAD OF THE CHURCH." (Colossians 1:16-18)

"We Have Found Him of Whom Moses in the Law and Also the Prophets Wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of Joseph" -- This Same Jesus Is Inviting Us to "Follow Me!" - Part 1335

Throughout the good news gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ -- according to John, there are some consistencies worth noting. Jesus regularly invites those He meets to "Come" or to "Come and see," and to "Follow Me." Just like God declared peace and good will to all in this current dispensation of grace, herein this same God (clothed in a sin-prone flesh and yet without sin) personally inviting one and all to experience His goodness and grace.

"And the Word [which was with God and was God] was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth." (John 1:1-14)

We begin with Jesus going forth into Galilee, and upon finding Philip, saith unto him, "Follow Me." Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip finds Nathanael, and saith unto him, "We have found Him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."

And Nathanael said unto him, "Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth?" Knowing that only one response would satisfy Nathanael, Philip said unto him, "Come and see." When Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, He said to him, "Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!" Nathanael saith unto him, "Whence knowest Thou me?" Jesus answered and said unto him, "Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee." Nathanael answered and saith unto Him, "Rabbi, Thou art the Son of God; Thou art the King of Israel."

Jesus answered and said unto him, "Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believe thou? Thou shalt see greater things than these." And He saith unto him, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man." (John 1:43-51)

From this account, what do we know? First, Nathaniel was of Bethsaida, the same city of Andrew and Peter. Nathanael was well versed in ancient scripture. He knew the content of the law, and the prophecies of the prophets of afore too. When Philip found Nathanael, he incited his curiosity about the One -- the "Him" whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, both wrote. His reply to Philip quite telling. That is, "can any good thing come out of Nazareth?" (John 1:46)

To which Philip invited him to "come and see."

Come and see the promised Messiah, the prophesied King of kings, the Christ who was spoken of for so many generations before. Come and see the goodness of the Lord.

I imagine the scene was similar to the just and devout man in Jerusalem (whose name was Simeon) waiting for the consolation of Israel, of whom the Holy Ghost said he would not see death until he had seen the Lord's Christ. I can only imagine his anticipation for that awaited moment. And, when he finally saw the child in the temple, he took Him in his arms, and blessed God and said, "Lord, now let thou Thy servant depart in peace, according to Thy Word, for mine eyes have seen Thy salvation, which Thou hast prepared before the face of all people; a light to lighten the Gentiles and the glory of Thy people Israel." (Luke 2:25-32)

"Come and see ..." Philip whispered to Nathanael. Come and meet the Master, the Messiah, the Lord's Christ.

Did Nathanael doubt Philip's invitation? Did Nathanael look for an excuse not to draw nigh to the Saviour, of whom Nathaniel would have studied about in the scriptures? No, instead, Nathanael dropped everything to see this Jesus. And when Jesus saw him coming toward Him, He said, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!" (John 1:47)

(As an aside, according to the dictionary, the word guile means sly or cunning intelligence, craftiness, or deviousness. Psalm 32:1-2 offers a scriptural perspective -- "Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputes not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile").

Some theologians suggest that the idea of the promised Saviour coming from Nazareth could have served as a stumbling block for Nathanael. As we learn, it did not. Nathanael positively responded to Philip's invitation to come and see Jesus -- which stands as an indication of his singleness and devotion of heart. It is equally obvious that Jesus was confirming Nathanael's heart also.

So, Nathanael asks Jesus, "Whence know Thou me?" (John 1:48) How do you know me, Lord? he asks. Jesus replied, saying, "Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee." (John 1:48)

Note that Jesus did not have to say this twice. Nathanael understood what Jesus was saying to him the very first time. He knew that here was the Lord who knew the innermost thoughts of the heart, and that He already knew Nathanael -- from the times of refreshing when Nathanael sat under the fig tree communing with the Lord.

To which he praised Jesus, saying, "Rabbi, Thou art the Son of God. Thou art the King of Israel." (John 1:49)

In essence, John's inclusion of Nathanael confirms what John had already been saying in his writing of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. That is, Jesus is the Word that was with God and was God. (John 1:1-18) That all things were made by Him and without Him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1:3) Jesus was the true Light which lights every man that comes into the world. (John 1:9) And, that this same Jesus who was in the world and the world was made by Him and the world knew Him not, was come to save His people from their sin. (John 1:10-11; Matthew 1:21-23)

As John the baptist declared upon seeing Jesus, "This is He of whom I said, "After me comes a man which is preferred before me; for He was before me." And I knew Him not but that He should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water." (John 1:30-32)

Jesus -- the One who baptizes with the Holy Ghost. (John 1:33) Moreover, the Christ confirmed by John the baptist who said, "Behold, the Lamb of God which takes away the sin of the world. " (John 1:26-29)

As we can see, the true identity of Jesus being revealed in every line of the scriptures. Not only as the "only begotten Son" but as the Father who loved us enough to offer Himself as a perfect sacrifice on a cross. We know this because of Jesus own words later on when He said, "I and My Father are One." (John 10:30)

And this same very same Christ was bidding Nathanael to come and follow Him. Not just by the fig tree but in the day to day -- the every day. Even more important to Nathanael because the fig tree was oft referenced in scripture as a place whereby the Rabbis would study the old testament writings. It held special meaning, and Jesus knew so. It is no wonder Nathanael said, "Rabbi, Thou art the Son of God; Thou art the King of Israel." (John 1:49)

Like John the baptist who himself said he had seen and testified that Jesus was the Son of God, Nathanael also understood who Jesus was. (John 1:34) But not just the promised Son of God, but, as well, the King of Israel. The One and Only King of kings and Lord of lords. And, as such, Nathanael willingly and without hesitation became one of Jesus' disciples.

When Jesus saw Nathanael's heart, He said unto him, "Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these ... Verily, verily, I say unto you, "Hereafter, ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man." (John 1:50-51)

Very truly I say unto you, Jesus is telling Nathanael, let me open the heavens for you and invite you to the most elaborate wedding feast of all time!

Thus, like Nathanael, we need to realize the higher destiny our Lord God and Saviour Jesus the Christ has for His people. That is, Jesus wants to open the heavens for us too, and reveal unto us His Kingdom. His love. His mercy. His goodness. All we have to do is pick up our cross and follow Jesus -- the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the ending.

Jesus -- King of kings and Lord of lords.

And Jesus -- the root and the offspring of David, the bright and morning star has invited us to come and dine with Him. Stand in the offering plate.

The First Man is of the Earth, Earthy; The Second Man is the Lord From Heaven. - Part 1334

Then Saul (who is [called] Paul) filled with the Holy Ghost set his eyes on him and said, "O full of all subtilty and all mischief, [thou] child of the devil. [thou] enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? And now, behold, the hand of the Lord [is] upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sin for a season. And immediately, there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand." (Acts 13:10-11)

Like Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them who preached the gospel, and likewise, seeking to turn those who may believe away from the faith, there are those within today's society who desire to do the same. And, given the nature of the time, the devil itself is running to and fro, seeking to devour whom it can.

But what happens when one remains true to the Lord Jesus -- faithful to follow His guidance and instruction, and always desirous to learn from the Word of God? The Word being Jesus? (John 1:1-18) Those around us, like the deputy when he saw what was done, begin to believe, "being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord." (Acts 13:12)

"And when the sabbath day was come, He began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing Him were astonished, saying, "From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto Him, that even such mighty works are wrought by His hands?" (Mark 6:2)

How often did the teachings of Jesus confound the wise? Or, the accusers of the disciples marvel and know that these must have been with Jesus, because to them, they should have been as "ignorant and unlearned" men?

As we know from the scriptures, Jesus spoke all these things unto the multitudes in parables, and without a parable spake He not unto them, "that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, "I will open My mouth in parables. I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world." (Matthew 13:34-35; Psalm 78:2)

Why? " ... To make all [men] see what is the fellowship of the mystery which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ, to the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly [places] might be known by the church -- the manifold wisdom of God according to the eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord; in whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of Him." (Ephesians 3:9-12)

And to those of us who receive Jesus as our Lord and Saviour by faith, we also receive His grace so that we can preach among the people the unsearchable riches of Christ.

That is, "the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations but now is made manifest to His saints, to whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory; whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus." (Colossians 1:26-28)

The hidden truth -- God manifest in the flesh. (I Timothy 3:16) The Word made flesh and dwelt among us. (John 1:1-14) The first man of the earth -- earthy; the second man being the Lord from heaven. (I Corinthians 15:47)

Yes, He was in the world and the world was made by Him and the world knew Him not. He came unto His own and His own received Him not. (John 1:10-11)

This same Jesus whom ye have crucified (as Peter standing with the eleven said) is BOTH Lord and Christ. (Acts 2:36)

The risen Christ is our Redeemer, and if we are faithful, this same Lord and Saviour -- the Lord of hosts, will turn all things to good for them that love Him with all their heart, soul, mind and strength, and understanding. (Mark 12:28-29; Deuteronomy 6:4)

This outcome even when sorcerers (filled with a spirit that is earthly) try to convince those around us that the good news gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ can't be true. That Jesus the Christ can't be the Light, and the Life, and the Bread from heaven. Still, as Jesus explained to His disciples, when they asked Him to declare unto them the parable of the tares of the field -- He that sows the good seed is the Son of man. The field is the world. The good seed are the children of the kingdom. The tares are the children of the wicked one. The enemy that sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the world, and the reapers are the angels.

"As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth His angels and they shall gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity and shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father." (Matthew 13:34-43)

We are to be that city on a hill for His kingdom. So, don't be discouraged. Those who know Jesus as their Lord God and Saviour also know that Jesus is the ONLY Way, the Truth and the Life. (John 14:6) And, as Jesus said, "If ye had known Me, ye should have known My Father also, and from henceforth ye know Him, and have seen Him." (John 14:5-18)

He does not leave us comfortless. Seek Jesus today. Study the scriptures to show thyself approved unto God, as doth a workman. (II Timothy 2:15) Stand in the offering plate.
