With regard to freedom of thought and freedom of speech, we see that the Puritans appear to be incapable of entertaining either. Their mindset was similar to the Roman dogma, which they themselves hastily escaped from under that yoke. The Friends however believed that whatsoever God revealed to them in secret they were going to shout it from the roof tops. This historical representation reminds us of a similar scriptural encounter Peter and John had, at the hands of the authorities. Those authorities could not tolerate unlearned and ignorant men challenging their demands. As a consequence, Peter and John were admonished not to speak or teach in the Name of JESUS to anyone. But those demands were like hot air to the duo. Instead, they answered the authorities by asking of them this question. Judging yourselves, is it better to obey men rather than God? Note the response. Note also that Peter and John, in the days that followed went everywhere preaching the Word of God. One might relate this to the entrance of free speech into the America’s.
Continuing on from Part 156, to question and answer # 2. The Prophets David and Isaiah state that the Lord is my light and my salvation. I will give you as a light unto the Gentiles. In speaking to the church -- For the Lord shall be your everlasting light -- to which the evangelist adds concerning Christ -- That was the true light, which lightens every man that comes into this world. God is Light and in Him there is no darkness at all. From whence I assert the unity of God and Christ, because nominally distinguished, yet essentially the same divine light. For if Christ be that light, and that light be God, then is Christ God. Or, if God be that light, and that light be Christ, then is God Christ? Again, the city had no need of the sun, for the glory of God did lighten it. The lamb (Christ) is the light thereof. By which the oneness of the nature of those lights plainly appears. For God is not God without His own glory.
Reiterating the message, there is only one God. JESUS is that One God Himself Manifest in the flesh as a Son. God has declared this to be true when He said, My Glory I will not give to another. JESUS is the brightness of God’s Glory and God’s express image. Remember God has said that you shall have no other God before Him. Thomas in the New Testament declared to Jesus that He was Lord and God. There is only one Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord dwells, there is liberty. For he whom the Son sets free is free indeed. Stand in the Offering Plate.

Jesus The Christ -- The Hope of Glory - PART 156
Christ in you is the hope of glory. Indeed, Christ was central to the early Friends experience. The Friends identified that the light now dwelling within them was indeed the Christ. We know this from writings by William Penn who was imprisoned for his anti Trinitarian statements. The sandy foundation were shaken and the accusations against him being that he denied the divinity of Christ. His answer to this charge he titled, "Innocence with her open face" which he penned whilst in prison.
He writes, "That which I am credibly informed to be the greatest reason for my imprisonment, and that sound of blasphemy, which has pierced my ears of late is my denying the divinity of Christ, and divesting Him of His eternal Godhead, which busybodies have suggested to those in authority, as maliciously insinuated amongst the people; wherefore I beseech you to be impartial and considerate, in the perusal of my vindication, which being in the fear of the Almighty God, and in the simplicity of scripture dialect, presented now to you. I hope my innocence will appear beyond a scruple. The Proverb, which, as most will agree, intend Christ as Saviour when speaking in this manner, By Me Kings reign, and princes decree justice; I (wisdom) lead in the midst of the paths of judgement; I was set up from everlasting; to which Paul’s words allude, Unto them which are called (we preach) Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God; from whence I conclude Christ the Saviour to be God; for otherwise God would not be Himself; since if Christ be distinct from God and yet is declared as being God’s power and wisdom; but inasmuch as it is impossible God’s power and wisdom should be distinct or divided from Himself, it reasonably follows, that Christ who is the power and wisdom of God, is not distinct from God, but entirely that very same God."

Looking back , I recall when the Trinitarians and the Oneness believers fellowshipped together. the young Trinitarians decided to separate themselves from the Oneness believers. They were successful in their endeavour and they also secured all properties, only one edifice survived the fray. It was in this remaining edifice that I fearfully entered, fearfully I say, for I was young in Christ and older Trinitarians could not answer my questions concerning doctrines that were clearly defined in the Scripture as the teaching of the Holy Spirit through the Apostles. Their only remedy was to lay fear.
Then, I and my young family drove across the city to this single remaining edifice. In this place, a very elderly brother was teaching Sunday school. My memory of the message is that he taught about the Beatitudes. My memory of the place is when the peace of God that passes all understanding rested upon me. I was privileged to sit at the feet of one who had frequented the 1904 revival. Love all them that love the truth, for God is Love and God’s Word is Truth. Remember too that if any man or angel preach any other gospel to you Paul declares that they are, according to the scriptures cursed.

Who Are You Lord? I AM Jesus - PART 155
Norton (Trinitarian) tries to explain the trinity view point to Howgill's reply. From Norton’s presentation - you are endeavouring to prove the trinity as you call it, and you say that the Father is a distinct subsistence, and the Son a distinct subsistence, and the Holy Spirit a distinct subsistence. And to support this you refer to John 5. There is another that bears witness likewise, speaking of the Holy Spirit, he calls Him another, and this another you say is intelligible of the essence, and then you say, what is more manifest than another subsistence, and another subsistence, and another subsistence speaks distinct subsistence, and then you say, the Spirit is called the hand of the Trinity.
Howgill replies to Norton’s above outline saying, Another is not to be understood as being of another life or another subsistence, but is to understood of as another manifestation or operation of the same God who subsists in the same power in which the Father the Son and the Spirit subsists, and as I said to you before, another, as to distinguish of the operation and work of the Spirit, and of the Son , we accept this. Francis Howgill died in 1668 after repeated imprisonments. His last words were, "I have sought the way of the Lord from childhood and I have lived innocently among men, and if any inquire concerning my latter end, let them know that I die in the faith in which I lived and for which I suffered."
May all born again believers continue steadfastly in the faith that was once delivered to the saints, personally delivered to them by their (our) Great God and Only Saviour the Lord Jesus the Christ. There is only One God in Heaven and Jesus is His name. Jesus said, "except you believe that I AM, you shall die in your sins. He that has seen Me has seen the Father." Remember Paul's question - Who are you Lord? The reply - I am Jesus!

Because God Was In Christ - PART 154
Jesus sent His Word and the people were healed. In fact, Jesus' Word was power packed. For when Jesus spoke, lo it would come to pass. Indeed, no Word proceeding from Jesus' mouth was fruitless. Every Word had meaning. And as we know today, every Word spoken by Jesus was (and still is) life to those who call upon His name.
Why? Because God was in Christ. The eternal Spirit of God dwelt in all fullness in the man Jesus. Yes, God Himself. God’s holy Spirit is the one instrumental in bringing the man Jesus into this Adamic creation. Recall what the angel said to Mary -- that which is conceived in you is of the Holy Ghost.
Jesus -- being not only a Son as modern Biblical translations and religious culture present. For the Word declares that Jesus is the ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD. Jesus performed the miracles. If He were a "created" son as Adam was, there would be no feeding of the 5000 plus. Why? Because it is His Word that had power. Look around. Everything that you see was brought to pass by the Spiritual Word of God. You want to view art? Look around you and listen to the sound effects. Consider His handiwork for which you now have no excuse. This is why with all our learning we ought to seek understanding.
We are God’s workmanship. God is still on His Throne. God is everywhere. The only place that God does not inhabit is a man’s heart and this is because He created us to have choices. Still, when we ask our Lord God and Saviour into our heart, God responds to our faith with His eternal power.
This morning, I heard of a book entitled, "Catholics were Right." You will recall that when the book was first mentioned that I had said that Roman Catholics would appear right as long as one never read the New Testament. The author is a news commentator. As I listened to his comments, I learned that he was born to a Jewish father, and his mother of a different faith. He became involved in the Roman Catholic religion and then left to associate himself with evangelicals. Later, he jumped ship again and went back to the Roman Catholic religion.
In his presentation, he mentioned that the sacraments performed in the Roman Catholic church were important. His viewpoint however is askew from a reporting analysis. Why? Because until you are privileged to hear the details of the original account (and similarly wording) if words were spoken, the conclusions are misinformed. A good journalist would not lay aside an eye witness report for a wishy washy interpretation. So, were the Catholics right as portrayed by this author? No Sir. They are not right.
But the Bible New Testament -- the Word of God is right. And the Apostles were eye witnesses of the account. Therefore, in order for the author to be accurate in his conclusions, he needs to first familiarize himself with the scriptures so that he can discern the truth.
The Jesus Apostles chosen by the Spirit of God on the opening day of the Christian faith did not say to the populace that they should keep sacraments in order to be saved. What they did say was this.
"Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus [the] Christ for the remission of sin" and that by so doing they would receive the promise of the Holy Ghost to indwell them. That very same day God added 3,000 faithful persons who -- as the scriptures state -- gladly received the Word.
Of course, admittedly Rome changed the original Matthew 28:19 to suit their presentation rather than aligning themselves with the truth of the scriptures - to which the present day pope admits. In conclusion, the message here is to please read your Bible. By doing so, the falsity of religion will be exposed. Of course one must start off with the premise -- Let God be true and every man a liar -- to understand the breadth and depth of knowledge and faith available to those that believe.
For Canadians, this means letting Canada flourish by the preaching of God’s Word, and the praising of His Name. For as the national anthem proclaims -- He shall have dominion from coast to coast. Oh Canada, we stand on guard for thee. Blessings!

Jesus Is the Light of the World - PART 153
The people who have walked in darkness have seen a great LIGHT. In this context, Jesus is the light of the world. So the Puritans arrive in the Americas and the Friends tagged along. One would think that the Puritans would refrain from persecuting others having themselves tasted persecution at the hands of religious zealots. But such was not the case. They could dish out persecution upon any who would dare to challenge their cemented beliefs. It sort of reminds one of the exodus from Egypt. No sooner were they delivered from bondage than in their heart’s they desired to return. Reluctantly, they went on in their travels, going around in circles wandering in a desert place. At the same time, instead of faith arising, their foolish hearts became harder. In their midst, were some faithful.
The same could be attributed to the Puritans who seem to have adopted some of the traits of their former persecutors. Whilst in their midst were the Friends. The Friends desired a new land where the Christ child in the womb of the earth could receive nourishment from the sincere milk of the Word of God. A place free from persecution. Unfortunately, it appears that not all the puritans had the same vision. The Friends sought a place where all men by God’s Grace may be permitted to work out their own salvation with fear and trembling. The Friends desirous that this new land would flourish, by the preaching of God’s Word and by the praising of God’s name (JESUS)
As we move along we will find that the more they preached the Word of God, the more they endured the fuel of persecution! Still, while words may hurt, words that stimulate an alternative viewpoint do not kill. New Testament teachings advocate Love. Love God and love your neighbour as yourself. Still there are times when persecution causes believers to move along in life which the Friend’s did. They looked for a city which had foundations whose builder and maker is God. And in the event that this new land had at that moment no such city, then they would endeavour to lay a corner stone and a foundation for that city. That rock foundation is the Word of God spoken through the Mouth of the Lord Jesus -- the Christ which were the words of the eternal Spirit of God, who has said that no other foundation can man lay. All other ground alas is sinking sand.
The friends were the framers of the not yet common constitution. They had a vision. They had looked over the mountain top ... for truly in God they did surely trust. Remember the Protestant ethic? Hard work. Thrift and discipline. Like these folks, the scriptures encourage us too to go into all the world preaching the Word of God both in season and out of season. Jesus the Prince of Peace! Jesus the King of kings. Lord, where else can anyone go? You alone Lord have the words of eternal life.
Find out for yourself. Read your Bible and ask the Saviour of all men (JESUS) into your heart today!

The Trinity Challenged - PART 152
Concerning the heterodox of the Friends or Quakers
Historically, the heads of religion, as the so called self-appointed church fathers, have set down certain platforms concerning the Godhead, advancing a cunningly devised fable that God is three distinct and separate person and yet remains as one God. This I say to you and to the whole world. We do not hold to that belief neither do we embrace such unscriptural platforms. The reason? Beyond scriptural evidence, no man has ever before held this account to be accurate. God has revealed by His Spirit that which is written and confirmed by the testimony of the scriptures being God’s Word!
The Trinitarian (Norton) launches an attack against the Friends, to which Howgill the Friend responds. First, concerning the trinity - the Trinitarian says that we the Friends confess the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit, and yet you deny the trinity, that they be three distinct persons. To confute this you bring forth Hebrews chapter 1 verse 3 - "He being the express image of His Father’s person."
Howgill replies. "Your trinity is an old popish term and we love to keep to sound words. For by the trinity, I suppose you mean three. Your own words shall confute you. You confess that we say there is a Father, Son and Spirit, and yet but one God, or one eternal being or substance, but your word distinct is your own word and not the Spirit’s, yet to distinguish between Father, Son and Spirit we do not deny.
As for Hebrews chapter one, it is rendered in another translation the express image of His substance, for person is to gross a word, to express an eternal and divine being. And if you do uphold that God is three distinct substances you err in your judgment, for that would make three Gods."
Norton attacks the Friends concerning Christ. Norton states that the Friends deny Christ to be God and man in one person, and Christ to be a distinct person from the Father. They acknowledge such a Christ as un-Christ Christ, and when they say Christ manifest in the flesh, they mean not as the scripture, but fallaciously.
How Gill replies. We say according to the scripture of truth and not according to your fallacy. We say that in the man Christ did the fullness of the Godhead dwell, and that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself. Christ said Himself "I and my Father are one." (John 10:30) The Father, the Son and the Spirit subsist in one eternal power. Life and Glory, which you and all your stupid generation are ignorant of, and Christ that we acknowledge is such a Christ as is able to save to the utmost them that come to Him, and receive Him and believe in Him.
When we say Christ manifest in the flesh we say that "holy thing" which was brought forth and born of a virgin, and conceived of the Holy Ghost in whom all the fullness of the Godhead dwells.(Colossians 2:9; I Timothy 3:16; Isaiah 9:6) In whom the eternal power of the Father was manifested. That He was the Christ which was manifested in the flesh and justified in the Spirit, preached among the Gentiles, seen of angels, and received up into glory. (I Timothy 3:16) This is according to the scriptures of truth, and your judgment on this must be judged. As such, truth must never bow to error.
Let the Word of God be acknowledged once and for all. Stand in the offering plate.

They acknowledge such a Christ as un-Christ Christ, and when they say Christ manifest in the flesh, they mean not as the scripture, but fallaciously.
How Gill replies. We say according to the scripture of truth and not according to your fallacy. We say that in the man Christ did the fullness of the Godhead dwell, and that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself. Christ said Himself "I and my Father are one." (John 10:30) The Father, the Son and the Spirit subsist in one eternal power. Life and Glory, which you and all your stupid generation are ignorant of, and Christ that we acknowledge is such a Christ as is able to save to the utmost them that come to Him, and receive Him and believe in Him.
When we say Christ manifest in the flesh we say that "holy thing" which was brought forth and born of a virgin, and conceived of the Holy Ghost in whom all the fullness of the Godhead dwells.(Colossians 2:9; I Timothy 3:16; Isaiah 9:6) In whom the eternal power of the Father was manifested. That He was the Christ which was manifested in the flesh and justified in the Spirit, preached among the Gentiles, seen of angels, and received up into glory. (I Timothy 3:16) This is according to the scriptures of truth, and your judgment on this must be judged. As such, truth must never bow to error.
Let the Word of God be acknowledged once and for all. Stand in the offering plate.

In Spite of Persecution - PART 151
Let our heart’s burn within us with desire for the love of our Lord and Saviour.
As a result of the reformation and the Bible now available in one’s mother tongue, the British Isles were alive with revolutionary ideas. One of the more radical groups were the Friends or Quakers and this is evident from the historical record. For Friends, prison doors had become like revolving doors. Controversy over their scriptural beliefs repeatedly brought them to prison. Their boldness in preaching God’s Word reminds one of the early believers recorded in the Bible book of Acts.
As background, the Friends (Quakers) arrived in Boston in the 1650's. There, the Friends were harassed. Laws were passed to drive them out. As more Friends arrived, laws concerning the Friends became stricter. Eventually, it was decided that the penalty of death should be imposed upon Friends who dared to return after they had been expelled by the authorities. In this context, a few Friends became martyrs.
Still, in spite of the persecution, the early Friends preached scriptural teachings that were essentially opposite to the main line religious establishment. One of the doctrines that came to the forefront was their preaching Anti-Trinitarianism. It resulted in fury. The same situation exists even today. I suppose this is where the saying - it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks - is pertinent. Historically, Trinitarian teachings were established as so-called church beliefs in 300-400 AD. These Trinitarian doctrines were adhered to by the Roman church even though there are no scriptures advancing such teaching. The Friends were aware of this inconsistency which situated the reformers between a rock and a hard place.
If this presentation were to be made at the time of the arrival of the Puritans (tagging along with the Friends), where would our lot fall? Possibly, even today wrath arises in religious zealots' hearts as to why someone would have the audacity to oppose church teaching. But it is important to remember that scripture trumps religious interpretation that does not accurately align with the gospel. Certainly, Christians would not oppose church teachings if these teachings were in accord with the King James Version of the scriptures. Note that it was the King James Version that had been diligently prepared by scholars adequately equipped in languages.
As well, we have in past presentations made numerous references as to whether God is three distinct and separate persons in the Godhead, and that these three individual persons are one God. Recall that in Matthew 28:19, the scriptures instruct us to baptise into the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We provided references and citations from Encyclopedias and other scholars that the Roman church altered the text from the original version. Indeed, there is even evidence to suggest that, apparently, the present day pope acknowledges that the alteration occurred in Rome.
Let's be clear. The New Testament nowhere suggests that God is three distinct and separate persons. You are not three persons. You are made in the Image of God. You are created in a son body containing the breath of Life and in that son’s body you will father all of your offspring. You can speak as a son and as a father and as a free spirit. You are one spirit person manifested in a Son body. You hopefully are not three persons!.
Think on these things and search the revealed Word of God for God wants to bless You!

Put On Whole Armour of God - PART 150
Earnestly contending for the faith that was once delivered to believers,
Paul declares, "I marvel greatly that you are so soon shaken from the faith!"
It is for this reason that we are instructed to put on the whole armour of God. Not like David of old, who was decked out in the fashion of the then day warfare attire -- so attired that he was unable to function. The analogy refers to the attire of religion. One is put in a strait jacket even though the example is one of David going to battle. Fortunately, David's chosen attire was to have faith in God. The same God who alone is able to deliver us from our enemies, and is our shield, our defender, the God of the fathers of faith.
In the same way, our faith today declares that thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God. When Jesus said that upon this rock He would build His church / assembly / congregation/ people, He also stated that the gates of hell would not prevail against it. Why? Because God is more than able to defend His people.
The ark of the covenant requires no man’s hands to uphold it., However, God has freely placed into man’s hands the Seed which is the Word of God. And like all Seed, it requires planters. God has committed the planting into the hands of man to deploy. For if we sow sparingly, we shall reap sparingly.
We are not talking here as TV artists do about money being the seed. Rather, we are setting the stage for the defence of the faith, endeavouring to withhold nothing that may be profitable to God’s flock. We are not preaching partiality nor are we gainsayers. Recall from former presentations, the example of a penny doubled every day for 28 days growing to 1 million dollars.
If we translate the penny into persons, so that within 28 days, we can reach 1 million persons with the gospel, what a different world we would see. In this context then, let's attempt to alter the world’s atmosphere toward God, into an atmosphere of love for God. Sow in tears and reap in joy! All you need is love -- first dictated as a guide for our life.
On a different note, many of the teachings of the reformers seem to be over-rated because of their enthusiasm. Just like the size of the fish that got away. Understandably so, inasmuch as they were held captive by a masquerading priestly system. Held captive to a prison sentence where not a glimmer of light nor hope appeared. To grasp the hopelessness of the then populace, read the original preface to the King James Version Bible, especially when the writers pen words revealing the popish system along with others opposing the written Word.
They sought the protection of the King against possible persecution arising as a result of translating the Word of God into their mother tongue. As one author put it, he would not rest until even a plough boy would/should become more acquainted with God’s Word than any priest. Try to grasp the tenor of their words. They were first eye witnesses of the dark ignorance being advanced in God’s name.
The reformers sort of intertwined the old covenant and the New Testament as if the New Testament were an addendum to the old Jewish covenant. But of course never the twain did meet. Also they were still shackled with the erroneous doctrine of the papacy. As such, it was hard to read and digest the truth when surrounded with previously demonic teachings seated in high places.
I pray God that you read your Bible and allow the Word of God to have pre-eminence within you. Peace to all in Jesus name!

The entrance of your Word brings light and your Word Lord brings understanding. Without the Word, we would not even be able to theorize. This is why God sent His Word and healed us.
At the time of God’s appearing, it is said that darkness covered the face of the earth, and likewise, that gross darkness covered the people. Lord you are the light of the world and all those who follow after you shall not walk in darkness. However, men apparently love darkness rather than light, and even though they are totally aware that your enlightening words of truth have come into this dark world, men continue to walk in darkness. Many will not come to the light lest their deeds be reproved. In so doing, they establish that they were/are lovers of darkness and creatures of the night.
At the time of the reformation that same darkness of ignorance prevailed. The light of God’s words had once again been extinguished. Religious darkness flourished. Without any spirituality, there was wickedness everywhere.
Even so, the Bible is still the number one bestseller in the world, consistently year after year. These sales even though the Bible is not given the prominence that it should receive. The problem is that even though it is the number one best seller, it is not number one most read. Once again, men use the Bible as a cloak of dignity.
The reformation sparked the deadwood, and a forest fire raged throughout the land. The Geneva Bible introduced followed later, by the King James authorised version. At the same time, denominations arose. The roman darkness was exposed and banished from the land. Note: One should read the introduction to the King James Version obtainable via google on the net. Unfortunately, the introduction is no longer contained in most editions of the Bible.
The puritans advanced in numbers having their voices heard. But the one who shouts the loudest is not necessarily the person with the most lightening. For behind the scene, another small group of believers contended for the faith. These were called friends, later to be called Quakers. It is to this small group of assembled people that we owe so much. For it is their light that rose higher than others in truth. Indeed, much higher. The Exodus to the United States of America soon followed. The puritans seem to be the prominent figures, tagging along were the friends.
We will quote in the future concerning the "Friends." The friends being the apostles of those times, adhering only to the Word of God contained in the King James Version, causing the light that is much brighter than the noon day sun to shine. In the meantime, read the New Testament. For therein is contained the pathway of eternal life reaching out to all generations. God’s right hand and His Holy Arm offering peace.
Willingly desire to do His will. In so doing, bring forth the light because it is the fire of the Spirit of God that establishes nations. God bless you.

No Other Love Like Jesus' Love - PART 148
Jesus told His disciples that they were His friends. He said, "If you do whatsoever I command you continuing in my Word then, you are you my disciples." His friends. This is a prime example of a friend oftentimes sticking closer than a brother - that is, blood is thicker than water. However, scripturally, it would appear that the Spirit is thicker than blood. Can two walk together except they be agreed?
In the same way, many appear to be religiously bound together without any spiritual fellowship. People who have been born again, which in and of itself is not a natural birth, will affirm that the born again experience is a spiritual experience. The Word reveals that one is born again of God's Spirit. This is not another Spirit. The first Adam was declared of God to be a created a living soul. The living part of the soul was removed because of Adam’s laying aside God’s instruction.
For it is written that the soul that sins shall die. We are Adam's offspring and as such naturally we also inherit a soul totally rebellious toward God ways. As the scriptural analogy goes, we as humans wallow in the mire of sin, roaming further away from God’s plan for the human race. We even sometimes believing that this society as we know it is the norm. Every body is doing it.
Well not everybody.
Jesus, the child of the Holy Spirit is born of a virgin surrogate mother, arriving in a period of time declared to be “when the fullness of time was come.” The blood in Jesus' veins was not of Adam’s sinful race. Jesus' blood was a new blood line and because Jesus was the seed of the Spirit of God, His message was a message being delivered to the inhabitants of this race purposefully.
Jesus' message was a message of hope, a message of deliverance offering restitution. The ordinary people heard Him gladly. Sadly, the religious plotted His death while still others wanted to throw Him off a cliff. This latter option because it was not the death of the cross, as prophesied in earlier scriptures. But as we know, Jesus continued to walk out from them. The born again experience is a non happening experience except one associates him or her self with Calvary.
Without Jesus, there is no born again experience. Whereas if one knows Jesus then they will experience God's grace. The first Adam was of the earth, earthy, whereas, the second Adam was none other than the Lord Himself coming out of heaven, with one purpose of mind. That being, that He Himself would seek to save that which in God’s eyes is doomed. This second Adam is Holy Spirit Life. And He, Jesus breathes eternal life upon all who ask His forgiveness. Jesus saying that eternal life is the Gift of God.
