Love, Grace & Mercy -- Components of New Covenant - PART 52

My fellow believers, let me use an every day illustration to make a point.

We all know that a valid legal disposition -- a person's will -- cannot after his or her passing be set aside. At the same time, no one can legally make fresh provisions into it. So when we read that the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring, this is exactly what the scriptures meant. The word offspring was not intended to be plural, as if many persons were meant. Instead, the reference to “thy offspring” indicated that only one person was meant. That one person was, and still is Christ.

Listen carefully to the message that is being delivered. The testament or covenant had already been validated by God. As such, it cannot now be invalidated. The promises contained therein were rendered ineffective by a law made four hundred and thirty years after the promises were given by God.

In this context, if our heritage is the result of the law, then it would have to have ceased being the result of God’s promise. Yet we read that God conferred it on Abraham by promise, for if the receiving of the promised blessing were to now be dependant on the law, that would amount to a cancellation of the original contract -- the same contract which God made with Abraham as a promise.

Now you might ask, "What was the use of the law?" As the scriptures point out, the law was a later addition to humankind but never was the law an addition or replacement to the promise. The express purpose of the law was to make men conscious of their wrong doing. It was intended only to be observed until the coming of that promised offspring, spoken to Abraham as his offspring.

Let me repeat this point again. The law was an addition made to underscore the existence and the extent of sin until the arrival of “the seed or issue” to whom the promises were made. The law was enacted by the ministration of angels through the hands of [Moses who was] a mediator between God and the people. The intermediary was Moses. We also recognize that where there is a mediator, there must be two parties. But there is only one God.

There is no second party involved in the promises. God promised to deliver us from sin by Himself alone. He did so without angels or Moses in the middle. Now you might ask, "Is the law opposed to the promises of God?" Most certainly not. In fact, such a thought ought not to be entertained in your mind. The truth is this. If it had been at all possible for spiritual life to have been attained by law, then justification would have been assured by the same law. Unfortunately, that was an impossibility because there is none that are righteous. We all have sinned.

In this context, the whole world is contaminated. We are all in the bondage of sin, or as some might say, we are all in the custody of sin. This is why we needed a law to expose our sin. We needed to learn the lesson of hard knocks. Do you remember the analogy? After we leave school, we enter the school of life. Herein, we attend two schools -- one of these schools being the school of hard knocks and the second school the school of knee-ology. I hear you already saying, "What on earth is that school?" Well, the latter school becomes important when your back is against the wall, your friends have all jumped ship, you're broke, in tears, and possibly looking for an escape.

But now, by the Grace of God, you can drop on your knees and call upon your faithful creator Jesus. This is the same Jesus who loves you with an everlasting love. He is the one who does not want you or anyone should perish. You don’t need a law now.  You need His mercy.

This is why the gospel message is so powerful. At one time, we were all clothed in a fallen natural body. But through the shedding of blood (the Lamb of God), there is now remission of sin. We can be saved. Like the prodigal son who thought he had everything in his life under control, we also can hear our heavenly Father's whisper, “Welcome home! This is my son who was once dead but now alive again."

At the end of the day, it is HIS GRACE AND MERCY that will take care of you. Or like the psalms state, "When tears fall down like falling rain, then I turn around and call upon His name." Jesus the seed of the holy Spirit wants to meet you. Indeed, let Him whisper sweet "peace to you" too. Stand in the offering plate.

Jesus is the Rock - PART 51

As we continue on the topic, separating the wheat from the tares, we find that the apostle Paul starts asking pointed questions to confirm his initial suspicions. Think about this. In his endeavour to separate the wheat from the tares, Paul asks dubious questions of the believers. In the beginning, these questions may sound harsh. They were definitely not simple questions, but they were questions that were asked with the intention of shaking the tree. Questions regarding the very Biblical foundations and truths were asked of these supposedly professing believers. Let's see what falls out the tree.

Paul never withheld the punches when it came to staying steadfast in the truth. And in his mind, it had become abundantly evident that a fox had entered the chicken pen.

O foolish believers! Who has fascinated you? Have you been bewitched?

In today's terms, it could be a television evangelist (with glitz and glamour) who entices you to depart from the truth -- the Biblical truth that you had earlier embraced. But as the Bible reveals, truth does not bow the knee to error. There is only one gospel message and it is the same gospel message yesterday, today and forever.

Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law? Or, as the Bible states, because you heard the gospel of Jesus and believed? Man does not begin his spiritual life in the Spirit and then complete it by reverting to outward materialistic observances? Are the gifts of Him (spiritual gifts) who furnishes you with the fullness of the Spirit, and works within you the power of miracles now of no effect? It is in the context of these opposing perspectives that the theme separating the wheat from the tares continues.

Abraham had faith in God, and the resulting effect was God imputing toward him righteousness. Know this -- that only those who have faith to believe God, as Abraham expressed, became clothed in God’s imputed righteousness. Surely, you must see, that the true descendants of Abraham are men who have faith.

You must also see that throughout, the scriptures anticipated God’s justification of the Gentiles. God said to Abraham, "Because you have believed, then in blessing, I will bless you. Similarly, as a consequence of faith, you too are able to enjoy all of God's blessings, just as Abraham of the Old Testament did as a result of believing God.

But for all those who prefer observance of the law over God's plan of salvation, the scriptures say to let those people remain under the curse. That is, "Cursed be everyone who does not persist in carrying out all that this book of the law prescribes." The law teaches that he who preaches living under the rules and dictates of the law had better live and obey all the laws prescribed therein.

But even though the law was given through Moses, God had a better plan. He said that  grace and truth and justification comes from believing. This is why the law is not a matter of faith, nor does the good works expected under the law result in salvation. Rather, as the scriptures point out, the justified shall live because of their faith in God.

Further, there are reasons why the law has nothing to do with faith. That ability to stand before God would be an impossibility if it wasn't for God's plan of salvation. Christ (God veiling Himself in flesh as an only begotten Son) has ransomed us from the curse pronounced in the law, by taking on the pronounced curse on Himself. For us. For the scripture states, "There is a curse on every man who is crucified on a tree."

God’s purpose is therefore made plain. The promised blessing given to Abraham was also to be imparted to the non Jews from all nations in the days to follow. The promised blessing was so that all men and women could receive the promised gift of God’s Spirit.

Yes, the law may have been given through Moses but grace and truth and justification comes by believing the word of God (Jesus.). Salvation then is not of works. Salvation is obtained by putting your hand in the hand of the man who stills the water -- the same man that even the wind and the sea obey.

And yet, in spite of God's willingness to die on the cross for us, we harden our hearts. What we should be doing instead is accepting that God is love. And that His love demonstrated and conveyed toward all men when He laid down His life as a Son for you and me. Let the preaching of His word and the praising of His name begin so that we all may flourish.

May showers of blessings fall on you today in Jesus name. Stand in the offering plate.

Let God Be True -- Not Church-anity - PART 50

As we continue to discuss 'separating the wheat from the tares' we compare the dialogue and examples of today with scriptural references from the Bible. Certainly, the idea of using "good works" or "adherence to religious rules" as the priority over love, grace and mercy needs to be addressed. While works may be the result of our walk with God, there needs to be a recognition that God's plan of salvation starts and ends with God.

Indeed, when we consider the critical importance of love, grace and mercy, we also need to recognize that all of these ingredients are elements of the new covenant. This is especially important when one realizes that circumcision was a sign, a promise of things yet to come. But when the event takes place then there is no further need of a sign because the event has already occurred. It is akin to the saying we often use -- put the old covenant on the shelf because the new promised covenant is established.

One cannot straddle the fence either. We remind ourselves that Moses of the Old Testament was faithful to God. But his relationship with God did not start and stop there. Moses was instrumental in the plan of God. Moses played his part as a servant as we know from the scriptures.

But when Jesus appeared on the scene, He did not bring to men and women a repeat of the old covenant. Instead, Jesus brought His new covenant. A new covenant with God Himself delivering this plan of salvation personally. For Jesus is the author and the finisher of this covenant. Jesus fulfilled the requirement of the old covenant, to the extent that he crossed the “T's" and He dotted the I’s. In so doing, He is the sole administrator of the New covenant.

Beside all this, the law was added 430 years after Abraham received the promise that God Himself would provide a Saviour. And God surely did, by providing a sacrificial lamb. And as the point is made in the scriptures, that sacrificial lamb was none other than God Himself as a son. The child Jesus who was conceived in the womb of Mary. She being the surrogate mother to the holy child Jesus.

If one reads the Old Testament scriptures, we find that the law was added because of transgressions. But the law was never intended to be the end all. The law was added because of transgressions only UNTIL the seed should come to whom the promise spoke of. That seed was Christ, the seed of God’s holy spirit. Jesus is not part of the house. Jesus is indeed the "builder" of the house. Every house is erected by some person but this house, the house that God build, the house that God is still erecting, is built on a solid rock foundation. That rock is Christ.

As the scriptures state, no man can lay any other foundation. The scriptures declare that men and women must be born again. Acts chapter 2 elaborates on this point. Further, we need to remember that we are not the seed of Abraham or for that matter, any other person of Adam’s fallen race. There is neither Jew nor Gentile in God’s plan. There is neither male nor female, neither slave nor freeman in God's plan of salvation.

Why? Because we are all made as one in Christ Jesus. He alone was and is the Promised seed. As a consequence, we are the seed of Christ. Because of this, God has circumcised our hearts so that we too can become a new creation (a new covenant). A covenant not like the old where we put the old on the shelf. We have become anew through God's plan of salvation -- when Jesus died on the cross.

In terms of separating the wheat from the tares, we need to look at what is happening today. There are those was who administer infant baptism. I ask, but on what authority? It isn't scriptural. Are they endeavouring to soothe the uncircumcised heart of those who oppose the doctrine of Christ? Would they rather please men than be a servant of Christ? Remember Jesus said to let little children come to Him and forbid them not, for such is the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus also said that except you be converted and become as little children also, you shall not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Little children are obedient to their parents. So, if we confess God as our heavenly Father, why would we not show Him reverence and obedience by continuing in His word? The scriptures that tell parents to dedicate their children to the Lord while you endeavour to bring them to maturity under the care nurture and admonishment of the Lord.

But instead, we have these religious leaders who would rather sprinkle water on a baby than listen to the words of Jesus. Do they not realize that they are making void the word of God?  Overriding the written word of God in order to fulfill their man made traditions. The early believers continued steadfastly in the instructions of the apostles, who received their instructions from the ghost writer who is none other than the spirit of our Great God and only Saviour the Lord Jesus the Christ.

But then, to top things off they use descriptive titles to baptize these infants. They talk about God as if He were three distinct persons. There is only one God, and it is this one God who brought His plan of salvation to humankind. If you think otherwise, it is time to re-examine oneself and re-align oneself with the scriptures to see if you are indeed in the faith that was delivered to mankind by God Himself.

In other words, are you the wheat or are you a tare? Does following the traditions of men trump God's message? I think not! Let God be true. Peace to all those who love Jesus and are willing to adhere to the scriptural truths. Stand in the offering plate.

Believers in the New Covenant of God in Christ Jesus - PART 49

Today, we continue with the emerging theme "separating the wheat from the tares." Paul, who was an apostle to the non Jews, in writing to the Galatians penned these words.  "I marvel that some of you are so soon removed from the good news of the gospel." Actually, he was dumbfounded that some had so quickly deserted faith in the finished and completed work of Jesus. Was it not Jesus who purchased the free gift of salvation without works on our behalf?

Instead of believing the plan of salvation, some are instead deliberately presenting to people another gospel. Of course, there never could be another gospel. God's plan of salvation is the same yesterday, today and forever. Unfortunately, however, certain individuals believe that they have formulated a better plan of salvation, and in so doing, are upsetting believers by distorting the good news.

Listen carefully to Paul. He states that even though he himself or some angel from heaven proclaimed a gospel that contradicts the gospel message that he originally preached, God’s curse needs to be on this misguided messenger.  Do you think it is man’s favour, or God’s, that I am trying to win now? Shall I be told that I am courting the good will of men? Am I canvassing for men’s support? If I were seeking to please men, then I would no longer be a servant of the Christ. Paul continues.

Indeed, I certify and remind you brethren, that the good news which I delivered to you is no mere human invention. It is not just a story that can be created and recreated depending on the audience. Why? Because the original message was not from man. Neither did Paul create the message. As he states, I received this message. I received the gospel message and learned it, not as a result of fallen man’s wisdom but through revelations from Jesus the Christ. "For it had pleased God who had set me apart even before my birth, and later called me by His grace, to reveal His Son in me. God enabled me to tell the good news to the non Jews."Ordained of God to be an apostle, the Lord confirmed and affirmed my apostleship.

Galatians chapters 1 and 2 further elaborate on this point.

But today, as in Paul's time, there are still false prophets who want to present a different gospel message. There are still those people who challenge the doctrinal foundations and good news salvation message within the new covenant. And there are still others who want to defend the old covenant - as adherents of the old covenant. It is in these contexts that we challenge the positions of the established church fathers of 300AD who changed the gospel message arbitrarily.

Remember, God said that He would separate the wheat from the tares.

In Galatians, chapter 2 verse 11, we read about Peter arriving in Antioch. Paul said that he opposed him because his conduct condemned him. In fact, there he stood self condemned, his conduct being that he associated himself with the non Jews. When some Jews appeared on the scene, then Peter disassociated himself from the non Jews. Peter was fearsome of offending those who still held to circumcision.

The situation snowballed and the rest of the Jews played the hypocrite along with Peter. But not for long. Paul reacts to Peter's conduct saying, "But when I saw that they were not dealing straightforwardly with the truth of the good news, I said to Peter, before them all, if you who were born a Jew, adopt gentile customs. Instead of Jewish, why are you trying to compel the gentile converts to adopt Jewish customs?By what right?

We are believers in the new covenant of God in Christ Jesus. Men and women have been justified simply by faith in Jesus the Christ, and not by doing what the law commands. We ourselves have believed in Christ Jesus so as to get justified by faith in Christ and not by doing what the law commands. For by doing what the law commands, no person shall be justified. Observance of the law cannot win acceptance for a single human creature. As far as the law is concerned, I consider that I died on the cross with Christ. Nevertheless, now I live in Christ (for He put Himself in my place). I do not nullify the grace of God; for if acquittal from guilt comes through the law, then Christ has died in vain.

Still, there are today those of the Jewish persuasion who are endeavouring to add circumcision as an addendum to the new covenant. They are unfortunately frustrating the grace of God. They have failed to understand God's plan of salvation. We will continue this topic in the days to come. In the interim, God bless you one and all! In Jesus we are safe evermore. Stand in the offering plate.

Separating the Wheat from the Tares - PART 48

Separating the wheat from the tares is today's topic. In 1st John,  chapter 2, verse 19, the scriptures state that they went out from our company because they did not really belong to our company. For if they had been one of us, saith the scriptures, they would have persevered by our side and stayed. Instead the scriptures make it clear that they went out. They left the fold. And in reality then, by leaving, these individuals were clarifying that they do not, either then or now, fellowship with us.

Separating the wheat from the tares.  John continues to elaborate on this point. The reason I am writing to you, he said, is not because you are unaware of the truth. On the contrary, he states, you positively know the truth. But you also know that no lie is of the truth. As John states, anything that is false has nothing in common with truth.

The same message that John was portraying in his 'separating the wheat from the tares' is equally relevant to the scriptures that state, "He who denies that Jesus is the Christ is a notorious liar." Indeed, only the antichrist would deny that the Father was in the Son. That the fullness of the Godhead dwelled bodily in Jesus the Christ.  Further, he who habitually denies that Jesus is the only begotten son of God, he or she has no knowledge of the Father. Why do the scriptures raise these points? Because God made His presence well known to the apostles. And He wanted to make Himself equally well known to us.

"For he who has seen the Son has seen the Father, and he who has known the Son has known the Father also." There is no secret here. No mixed messages. God instructed believers to keep these scriptural treasures which have been heard from the beginning close to our hearts. I beg you to adhere to the original gospel teachings too. That is, the teaching of the Spirit of God spoken through His own mouth. This is the mouth of the man Jesus who is God Himself manifest in the flesh as a Son.

These things I write concerning them that endeavour to lead you astray, misleading you with enticing words that are contrary to the gospel which was first delivered to mankind. The gospel that was first spoken by the Lord Jesus for from His mouth proceeded the very word of God. Keep in union with Jesus. God is separating the wheat from the tares.

Still, the antichrists are everywhere, hiding behind the scriptures and cloaking themselves in robes or in angel's attire (white suits). These antichrists are speaking all sorts of things contrary to the original sound doctrine that was delivered to you in the scriptures. Their words, while enticing and endearing words and accompanied with glitz and music, are really making merchandise of you. They are fleecing you with their vain imaginations, hammered out on their own anvils. They fashion themselves in the style of Hollywood. Indeed, these antichrists are well rehearsed and take great delight in delivering their own "revised" gospel message. But their message is not the gospel message as delivered in the scriptures. It is not the intended gospel message of salvation that God wanted to share. It is not the message that will lead you to the love and peace of God.

But God is separating the wheat from the tares.

Paul further confirmed John's message when he stated that there would be men coming forth from your own gatherings and speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after themselves. In fact, Jesus said that some enthusiasts would compass land and sea to gain one convert after themselves. Imagine, travelling near and far in the hope that one soul would worship you rather than the Almighty God.

So what are we to do? How are we to know who is preaching the gospel message of Jesus?

The scriptures say to test the spirits. If these individuals speak words other than the original teachings of Jesus, as outlined in the Biblical scriptures, then Jesus said to come out from among them. Be separated from them so that Jesus can receive you. For these people with their false teachings have already left the fold and in so doing, go to great lengths to deviate their message from the scriptures. The Bible says, "What fellowship has light with darkness? Can two people walk together except that they are in agreement?" Of course not.

Still, what a travesty. God is separating the wheat from the tares.

In the days to come,  we will continue to present the Biblical truths as delivered in the scriptures. If you find these scriptural truths to be in opposition to what the antichrist churches are teaching, then you need to come out from them. Get close to Jesus instead. In so doing, remember that you will never be asked to join an assembly or give donations. Rather,  you will be encouraged to "Stand in the Offering Plate." It is "you" God wants.

In Jesus name, receive redemption as the free gift of God. And from here, obey the first alter call message delivered by God’s Spirit. It was delivered through the mouth of Peter so that all people should obediently submit to God’s way of salvation. Read Acts chapter 2, verses 37 through 40. This is the born again message of reconciliation. God's intended plan of salvation, that includes being born again of water and of the spirit.

God bless you, for He has said in blessing, I will bless you.

Down From His Glory - PART 47

One of the many blessings that emerge from having a personal relationship with God our Savior is the melody that begins to play in our hearts. The joy takes over. The words to the song entitled, "Down from His Glory" is a perfect example of how God can change a life for the better. Making melody in our heart to the Lord. Life can't get any better than this ...

Down from His glory ... Down from His Glory
Every living story
My God and Saviour came
And Jesus was His Name
Born in a manger and to His own a stranger
A man of sorrows, tears and agony

Chorus:
Oh how I love Him
How I adore Him
My breath my sunshine
My all in all
The Great Creator ... became my Saviour
And All God’s fullness dwelleth in Him

The words of this hymn declare what is confirmed in the Biblical scriptures. The words of this hymn declare what we believe and why we believe that it was the Christ in God, conceived of and by the Spirit of God, manifesting Himself as a Son, that has brought us salvation. Herein we perceive the love of God toward us in that He laid down His life for us. For you and I.

As a consequence, there is no more sacrifice for sin. There is only one God in Heaven -- JESUS is HIS NAME. This is the New covenant that was promised by the prophets of the Old Testament. Put the old covenant on the shelf. God bless each and every one of you! Stand in the offering plate.

Church is Jesus the Christ Himself - PART 46

AUTHOR: Witness Lee
COMPOSER: Harold Green

1The Church’s seed is nought but Christ Himself
Sown into human hearts as life, thereby
Growing as wheat, producing flour fine
For bread both God and man to satisfy.
2But satan hath the false believers sown
Among the saints as tares among the wheat,
To bring confusion and to hinder growth
That they may not fulfill God’s plan complete.
3The Church’s life just as the herb must be,
Grown out of Christ, who is the mustard seed;
Hidden and transient, little on the earth,
But good for food the hungry ones to feed.
4But satan came and made the little herb
To change its nature and to change its form,
That fully grown it did a tree become
Where many evil ones may lodge and swarm.
5satan has also used the fallen “church”
Evil and heathen practice to include,
As leaven mingled with the meal of wheat,
Thus to corrupt its purity as food.
6But Christ as life would so transform the saints
That they may be as pearl and precious stone,
As the materials suitable to build
Into His Church to make His Kingdom known.
7Such an assembly grown in Christ as life,
Transformed and built with Christ in them annealed,
Is as the goodly pearl for preciousness
And as the treasure hidden in the field.
8Lord, separate us from the devil’s “tares,”
Each one deliver from the monstrous “tree,”
From all the “leaven” may Thou purify,
That we may be as food to man and Thee.
9Cause us to grow in life divine each day
That we may be transformed and built by Thee
Into a body to express Thyself,
That Thou in us Thy Church and Kingdom see.

Amazing Grace - PART 45

At midnight, Paul and Silas, who were imprisoned at the time, lifted up their voices in songs of praise. Their collective thanksgiving was directed toward the Lord, who brought them into a new life that the unbelieving world denied. Within this new life, God had removed the scales of unbelief from their eyes. Now, as believers, Paul and Silas could see and know assuredly that He was watching over them

How did they know? Well, first the two recognized that their Lord neither slumbers nor sleeps. Indeed, the Lord sings along with His people. And, in actual fact, the Lord is the theme of their song. When on earth, Jesus said that a day would come when believers would no longer worship only in Jerusalem, but that true worshippers would worship in the Spirit of truth. We witness these same world-wide blessings today.

Often, when one awakens from night sleep, he or she is aware that music and singing is already filling their inner Spirit. In many cases, this music can be likened to a full orchestra, complete with musicians and a choir. The music filling our hearts and minds and doing exceedingly well without our two cents contribution. Sometimes, the music is so engaging that we cannot do any thing except sing along to the beat. All of this happens without our conscious programming.

Just like the prodigal son, who, upon returning home from his wayward journey, heard the sound of music and dancing off in the distance. And to his amazement their was no admission charge included in the "welcome home" party.  Why? Because the admission fee was already paid in full. If the world only knew of the goodness of God, and the unexpected blessings about to be bestowed on Paul and Silas.

At midnight, the pair lifted their voices to their Lord. In so doing, their song did not just hit the prison walls and bounce back. No, something else happened. Remember the scriptures that state that God works in mysterious ways?  Here is a prime example. There was yet another individual in prison -- the jailer. Unbeknownst to Paul and Silas or the other prisoners, God had arranged an appointment with the jailer beforehand - perhaps, special visiting hours -- although this individual had no inclination that salvation was about to come to his household.

Well, the singing and the praying continued throughout the night. All the prisoners listened because like it or not, Paul and Silas were having church. And church it was. The two were engaged and singing hymns because they knew that "where two or three are gathered together to worship Jesus, there Jesus will be in their midst." But guess what happened.

God turned up. Something like Forest Gump did in the movie. But Gump's entrance didn't even begin to compare to this experience. That is because God is so full of surprises. His actions are not predictable according the wisdom of human thinking. "Who has known the mind of the Lord? Who has been His counsellor?"

Still, just like the sequence of events that transpired in Acts chapter 2, a miracle was about to occur. In this case, a violent earthquake shook the jail to its foundations. The doors that imprisoned Paul and Silas flew open simultaneously, releasing the chained and fettered hands of prisoners. The jailer, startled out of his sleep, was petrified. His eyes popping wide open as he beheld that the cells were all open. He became scared at the thought of punishment or worse, the fate that would be determined when the powers that be arrived and found the cells empty.

The jail guard drew his sword, figuring that he may as well end life now. Sooner rather than later, he thought, fully intending to end his life. Paul, viewing the jail guard's actions shouted aloud at the top of his voice, "Do yourself no harm," he said. The jailer who was by this time trembling terror stricken approached Paul and Silas. The jailer asked, "Men, what is necessary for me to do to be saved?" He was told to believe in and on the Lord Jesus the Christ. That is, to give himself up to the Lord God who created him and then lay down His life for him.

In other words, God is speaking the same message to you this day. Take yourself out of your own keeping and entrust yourself into His keeping, and you will be saved. Like the jail guard, this message of salvation also applies to them within your household.  When Paul and Silas spoke the word of the Lord to the jail guard, Paul and Silas then went on to baptize the jailer and members of his household by immersion and without delay.

As a consequence, the jailer and his household rejoiced because both he and all his household had come to believe in God. Acts 16 provides an account of these events. The message here is simple. If you are seeking after God and the preacher has long time ago forsaken the preaching of the true gospel, then maybe you are fortunate enough to still have some of the old hymnals available.  May I suggest that you digest the words of the hymnals, the words that were penned by believers of an earlier age, and let the atmosphere of their words take root in your heart. Most of all, accept Jesus into your life and be saved so that you too can be awakened out of a deep sleep singing "Rock of Ages."

Remember God is full of surprises that reach beyond the comprehension and understanding of human intellect. Amazing grace and God's salvation are just two. Both can be yours for the asking. Stand in the offering plate.

The Miracle of Faith - PART 44

Imagine going on a journey and being stopped by a bright light from Heaven. This is what happened to Saul. Dropping to the ground, he was unable to see. But he certainly knew from whence the light came. "What shall I do Lord?" he said.  It was Saul asking the question. The Lord said, "Get up and continue your journey to Damascus. There it shall be told to you what you've been appointed and destined to do." He then hears a voice speaking, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" At that point Saul asks the question, "Who are you, Lord?" The voice replies, "I am Jesus of Nazareth who you are persecuting."

Talk about rearranging the furniture in one’s head. Explosions of instant messaging with Saul wondering what was happening. I am sure he was thinking, "didn't we crucify the Nazarene?" Isn't he dead? And now he hears a voice confirming that this voice is Jesus of Nazareth. "And here I am persecuting Him," thinks Saul, "Here I am blind and lying on the ground. Here I am totally bewildered. I am blinded by this glorious light shone and yet here I am in the dark without any answers." Needless to say, Saul was confused.

But the voice gave him directions. The voice instructed Saul to continue his journey to Damascus. Upon his arrival, there would be further instructions. Admittedly, the experience of Saul was not an every day occurrence. As a consequence, the unfolding experience was not giving Saul a lot of details. Still, Saul obeyed. Is this to suggest that Saul was up and running? Of course not. But it did mean that Saul, soon to be renamed  Paul was being led by the hand of God.

It should be noted that Saul sure was taking a tumble. Spiralling downward. Here was a man who persecuted Jesus, humbled by the presence of God. In actuality, we are learning a lesson about what God can do. Follow along. Saul’s eyes were closed. What if he should never see again? And his future plans put on hold? "What is to become of me?" he asks himself. All valid questions for someone who is suddenly faced with his Creator.

So, Saul arrives at Damascus. There, he continues in this confused state for three days. During this time, however, he was praying, and how. Jesus who abruptly met him, had not forgotten him even though Saul may have figured that the voice was just a figment of his imagination. A mental breakdown.

But at the same time that Saul was praying, Jesus was informing a believing disciple named Ananias of Saul's encounter, concerning the aforementioned. Ananias, with name and address of Saul’s location headed out to see Saul. Jesus had also informed Ananias that Saul was praying. But Ananias knew what Jesus wanted him to do. Ananias had been instructed as what to say to Saul.

Even so, Ananias was kind of reluctant to put his head in a noose for he knew well of Saul’s hunger for religious fame. But Ananias arrives anyway. Standing before Saul, he said, "Paul my brother, receive your sight." The very same hour Saul, whose name was changed to Paul, glanced at Ananias.

Ananias then said, "The God of our fathers has chosen you Paul. He has marked you out. He has prepared you, that you should know His will. You will learn His will and purpose for your life. You will see the righteous one. And you will hear the voice of His mouth speaking to you through His lips." Ananias was speaking of Jesus. Saul/Paul had heard the voice of Jesus and was being transformed.

Paul without any further delays or hesitations, adhered to the gospel message. Arise and be baptised. Get yourself immersed at once, and by so doing, cleanse yourself washing away all your sins. For it becomes us to fulfill all righteousness. And while you are calling upon the name of the Lord Jesus, be filled with His holy spirit as promised. Paul went on to become the chosen Apostle to the gentiles -- the non Jews. And as the scriptures record, Paul was the last to see the Lord.

Regardless of what some preach, Paul made this point very clear in the scriptures. "Last of all, He was seen of me." (I Corinthians chapter 16)

Today, we need to know that God rules and reigns, whether or not we choose to acknowledge Him as King. Like Saul/Paul, we can venture on life’s journey. We can make life about "our way" or we can give our lives to God so that He can lead the way. The choice is simple. We can continue going around in circles or we can choose life. God has a purpose for you. God has a purpose for your life.

In short, the rule of thumb is this.  If you can't take God with you wherever you are going, then don’t go. If God is not being honoured in your conversation, then don’t have the conversation. God in all things must have the pre-eminence. He is first and foremost. This is your call. Stand in the offering plate.

Jesus instructed Saul on what he should and ought to do. And look at how his life was transformed. Saul became Paul. The old Saul became new. We ought to do likewise. With all sincerity. May our Lord God and Saviour bless you.

The Promises of Jesus - PART 43

We believe that through the grace of our Lord Jesus the Christ we shall be saved. From Acts chapter 15 in the Bible, we discover that some believers in the primitive assembly thought it necessary for the believing non Jews to be circumcised. It was similarly dictated that they must adhere to the Law. Well, taking that position caused an extensive inquiry.

Remember, it was Peter that God had chosen to initially deliver the good news of the gospel to the non Jews. Peter said at that initial moment that it was God who knows the heart. It is God who becomes acquainted with a believer and understands people's  innermost thoughts. Certainly, it was God who by the outpouring and inputting of His own Spirit upon the non Jews, welcomed the non-Jewish into the flock. It was He who had previously breathed His Spirit upon us Jews. God, in so doing, declared that He was placing no difference between the non Jews and the Jews. There would be no distinctions. He did not discriminate.

Indeed, God purified and cleansed the non Jews heart’s by faith. So why call God's love and motives into question now? Why strain the patience of God? In fact, why are so many endeavouring to put a burden on the shoulders of non Jewish believers, a burden that neither we nor our forefathers did.

As we read further, we see that James added his position to the discussion. James relayed how it pleased God at the first to visit the non Jews. It became obvious that God was choosing a people dedicated to His name. To this the afore-predicted language, the prophets agree. As it is written in the scriptures, "There will be a time when I shall return [to earth where] I will build again the tabernacle of David which is fallen down and now is in ruins."

In other words, God was saying, "I will raise my tabernacle afresh so that the residue of believing men and women from all nations who belong to me, may now earnestly seek after me." God from the beginning of time, and well into eternity, knows what He is doing. He has our lives planned out even before the foundations of the world were created. So how then, does religion's judgement and subsequent decisions that include imposing irksome restrictions on non Jews become valid. Remember, these were non-Jews who were turning by faith to the Lord Jesus.

So Peter and James confirmed that God's plan of salvation wasn't about dictates. Rather, there were four things that the non-Jews should do. First, to abstain from the pollution of idolatry. As well, abstain from fornication and sexual vices. And lastly, that they should keep themselves from eating the flesh of strangled animals. Indeed, from blood in any form, including processed or blood soaked meat. The reason? Life is in the blood. Life is in the shedding of blood.

Subsequently, the apostles and elders, in unison with all the believers decided to write on paper their decision. If you are reading along in the scriptures, you will find the references in Acts chapter 15, verses 23-28. Here comes the good news. For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary requirements. That is, encouraging believers to remain steadfast in the Lord. For the non Jews, the letter was critical. When they received this good news, they rejoiced. They had been encouraged by its contents. You can almost hear them saying, "yes, I will remain steadfast in the Lord."

Fast forward to the 21st century. God is still adding believers to His church daily. He is creating a nation of believers and building a temple of living stones for His own habitation. This is a temple not made with hands. Nor is this temple constructed of brick or mortar, wood, hay, or stubble. In this temple, Christ is the corner stone. The apostles and the prophets are the foundation. There is no other building. The Word is the foundation.

For God has said, "What house are you going to build me when Heaven is my throne and the earth is my footstool. As born again believers, we are the building chosen of God to be His habitation. His spiritual habitation.  The house in which He is so very pleased to dwell. We are the body of Christ. This building is the measure of the stature of the body of Christ. If you are looking for an analogy, how about God’s measuring tape?

God redeemed the people, and ensured their rebirth and salvation through His blood. Our sins were washed away by baptism as we called upon the name of the Lord. Yes, we are baptised into His temple by the same Spirit that dwelt within the man Christ Jesus. And now we are that body -- the body of Christ -- in which He is so pleased to dwell.

May God who now rules and reigns within your believing heart bless you. Stand in the offering plate.
